Mickey: They feel strong and solid and when you're winding a big spring that's important. The only drawback for me was that my garage is finished and the ceiling is low so these were actually to long to use. If you have more access like an open rafter then these would be great. When I got my springs I got a set of bars that are shorter, but the ends are rough and dig into your hands. I didn't know I was getting those with the springs but it worked out well because I wouldn't have been able to use these. I'm going to cut off and inch or 2 for the future so I can use them anywhere without losing any real torque value.

Phaedrus: So after reading all the horror stories about what can happen when torquing up a torsion spring, my heart was beating a little faster when I could figure out no other way to get my door working again after a spring change. The bars fit a little loose in the holes of the winding cone - I suppose this is okay, it was easy to make sure the bar was full depth in the hole, but it did wobble a bit. Watch some Youtube videos, lots on there about guys winding up the springs, it is as easy as they say but once you get to about 22 1/4 turns, you can feel the tension in the spring, and you certainly don't want that thing to break free. Make sure you keep your body to the side of the cone, away from the spring, just in case something breaks and spins free. You can hear it creaking and groaning a bit as you tighten it - disconcerting. It was not hard to push these long bars - like lifting 3-5 lbs, perhaps. I was happy when I got to 31 1/4 turns (for a 7 ' door) and tightened up the locking bolts. Heart was still racing a bit, but I feel it's healthy to be nervous and careful rather than relaxed and sloppy. It went fine, I would do again.
