I store a couple of these in each of our cars in case we are ever stranded in bad weather. I couldn't say if they would keep you from freezing, as we have not been stranded, but they take up almost no space and it is nice to know we have something other than our normal coats.
On the other hand, I have also used them in my mudroom in a mini-greenhouse type of space for growing tomatoes in the off season. The framework is 2 feet X 4 feet, floor to ceiling, with a grow light on the top and the mylar sheets used as liners for a canvas surround. The mylar keeps heat and light reflected from all directions toward the plants and the tomatoes do quite well.
These are fairly thin and do tear easily. The canvas painter's cloths protects them in the mudroom, but I would assume that they would be pretty much single use as emergency blankets.

LightRae: These little blankets are fragile and a couple of mine were stuck in places and ripped. The good news is they are inexpensive and I used mine to cover R-13 insulation and put it in the slots of my garage door. I saw some You Tube videos and got the idea that these blankets may do the trick. I wrapped each custom measured space and taped with packing tape so I could insert and secure with duct tape to the metal garage door. Pretty cool look as well as insulation. I am sure there are other uses. I would buy these again. It may be a nice thing to hand out to homeless people in the winter.

TechnoAmazonian: Good Aluminized Mylar blankets - many uses including rescue, survival, and practical applications around the house. These PrimaCare versions are fairly standard construction and good price, but are among the larger versions including an 84-inch length. A 12-pack is good for spreading around into your vehicles, bug-out bags, medical kits, camping gear, and still having some left to share with others and use in various projects. Warning - if using long-term outdoors, birds that like shiny stuff may shred them and swipe pieces! I used one outdoors to cover a roof vent and it lasted all winter ~ 6 months in high-UV desert until the birds began tearing it in their Spring nesting efforts. Mylar is a fairly strong and tough material, but in this "temporary use" thin format may not last long in heavy outdoor use. I have used it for over a year in indoor environments and it is still functioning well. It is a good wrapping-for-storage material.

Ok, so I am cheap.
We were looking to set up a hydroponics grow room and I balked at the price of mylar sheeting for the walls. So I thought........ "I wonder if there are inexpensive emergency blankets on Amazon?" And "YES" here they are.
They are only 1 mil thick, but that is plenty durable enough to tack up with push pins, like we did. The plants aren't complaining. And the blankets look kind of cool on the wall, because they come folded up into a small rectangle. So when we opened them up and hung them, the creases in the mylar made the walls look like they have metal tile on them.
So, I can't vouch for these for warmth, but they seem duable and well made. They aren't ripping at all when we tug on them, even where the push pins are through them.

Gordon D. Howe: This product was used in a back pack for homeless people. the back pack was used because it could hold all the items that were considered basic necessities and was light enough to be easily carried.
