LauraPolyglot: Good reminders and practical advice for the new university student. Some are more practical than others but overall quite useful

Ryan Sun: We got this for my niece who was heading off to her first year in college as a freshmen. I had it sent straight to her with a note and she had no issues with the shipping or anything. The biggest mistake we did make is sending it to her during COVID. She informed us many of the tips were helpful and really funny. But unfortunately, many didn't apply to her due to social distancing at her college. We're hoping that maybe the book will be more relatable during her sophomore year of college. Would recommend when there isn't social distancing in place!

Ltreece_2016: Love, love, love! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my younger brother. He's a junior in high school, and recently decided he didn't want to attend college because it was too hard. I wanted to give him something that he could refer to throughout his journey, something that would help 'guide' him through those harder moments. I also paired it with a copy of my college transcript (I had a few bumps throughout the road myself!) to show him it's okay to stumble and fall. As long as you get back up.
It was an encouraging gift, and most importantly, a very practical one. The tips are quick and organized enough that my brother doesn't feel overwhelmed skimming through them. The different sections of the book are logical and make it easy to jump to a set of tips most relevant to what you need. Now, he's ready to study again for his ACTs, and start planning out school visits for this summer. Overall, this was without a doubt one of the best gifts under the tree this year!

Amazon Customer: Not as impressed as I thought I would be. Despite the high reviews on Amazon.com, this book is awfully generic for the most part (I suppose it focussed too much on quantity and not quality). The author gives very, very common-sense tips, to the point where he comes off as condescending to the reader.
For example, Tip #60 is "You need to know the term major has nothing to do with the military." or Tip #998 "You need to know if you don't make a baby, you'll graduate." The book is filled with a plethora of tips that seem to question the basic intelligence of the college-bound reader.
There is one positive aspect though - the book show some tough love for the reader, and tells the reader as it is, without any fluff. E.g., the author is very blunt with the negative consequences of skipping class and/or frivolous spending. But I wouldn't recommend this book at all - buy another book, like The Freshman Survival Guide or How to Win at College by Cal Newport
