Thomas Lopez: Quite the work, combining lectures on a cohesive worldview with a heart wrenching story told by a possibly untrustworthy narrator

Old Blue: While I more than enjoyed the book, I feel that Robert's perspective is still missing the Truth. Where Quality and man's purpose can only be defined by his relationship with God .. we can only adhere to one Truth that can explain the past, future and in relationship Is our only hope for Eternity.

Joy: It’s not for me, bought as a gift so unfortunately can not give a review for the story,
Arrived promptly so very impressed with service. I bought a new edition, rather than a used copy.
Very fair price I thought.
Thank you.

Matt J.Matt J.: I will leave it to others to describe how amazing this book is. Five stars for the book. However, Amazon is selling a fraudulent copy with the same ISBN, but with obvious printing issues, including poor quality fonts, mismatching pages, cover art, which is imprinted in a skewed manner. Also, the fraudulent book is only 58 pages long compared to the real copy I later received which is 430 pages long. Last page in the fraudulent book has a strange hash code and a recent date suggesting maybe this was a downloaded file that was then self-printed and sold? Amazon should regulate the reselling better here.

Kindle Customer: Read this year's ago and on re reading it is not quite how I remembered it. The philosophical discourses stand out now. It's an excellent and complex book,

Linda Blanchard: Looking at the reviews here, this book is loved by hundreds and reviled by a small percentage. I wonder what causes so much passion? It's wonderful that we have, among those who gave the book just one star, so many people who are so far above it intellectually -- too familiar with philosophy, too personally enlightened, perhaps -- to find any value in it. But I would like to point out to the subset of our best and brightest, those who tell everyone else not to waste their time reading it, that just because you got nothing out of the book doesn't mean no one else will.

One of the complaints I see here is that there isn't much of the title's Zen nor much motorcycle maintenance, either -- and I note that the author says something about this in his introduction, so it must be true, right? -- yet I believe there is plenty of both. If the reader is expecting an introduction to Zen or a How To manual on motorcycle maintenance, those will not be found. It's not even the author sharing his enjoyment of either of the two fields with his audience. But the themes that run throughout the book explore many of the same ideas the Buddha did, and several concepts important to motorcycle...

Phill P: The negative reviews of this work are unjustified as they normally pick on one thing they don't like and judge the whole by it - exactly the kind of narrow mindedness the author was trying to get away from.

The claims that he is arrogant and superior do not hold up either. We all treat others badly at times and well at other times, and the so called arrogance people accuse Pirsig of is nothing of the sort. He is simply honest enough not to pretend he is always a good person. More honesty like this from the holier than thou critics would be welcome, instead of displaying even more arrogant dismissal than they accuse Pirsig of.

Forget the details of the journey itself. It's not about that. This is one man's story about how he tried desperately to understand what led him to lose his mind in the first place, all those years ago, reasoning that if he cannot work out how he lost his mind he cannot prevent it happening again. I cannot find any fault with that since it is only by understanding past mistakes that we can fix them, or not make them again.

This process is hampered by the lasting effects of the disgusting shock treatment he was forced to undergo, which has...
