Gavin DeadmanGavin Deadman: Very enjoyable read this one. A well written book that gives insight into the benefits and impacts of switching answers to invites from no with using the excuse that you're too busy (when unconsciously the real reason is being afraid), to yes where you show up and just be yourself and realise the human connections, joy, and business you can create from it.

anon: -Truly loved her style of telling her story
-Would recommend this to anyone (especially if youre a woman but even otherwise too) looking for a self help book but doesnt want to follow a set of rules; rather learn by example
-This is one of the best pieces of non fiction Ive read in years

Jeni: I would have rated this book 5 stars if it hadn’t included the “Mommy Wars” tirade. I felt undeservedly sucker-punched.
It truly comes out of nowhere.

Shonda Rhimes says motherhood is not a job. That’s she’s a mother and has a job.

Yet she hires a nanny to raise her kids. Now it’s true I don’t get paid a wage, but I sure AF am working my backend off all day caregiving. If you’re going to strip me of my position, then validate my hard work. I already go unseen 98% or the time; no I have no accolades to boast, and no colleges will invite me to speak. I made sacrifices too.

She says stay at home moms either are rich or have someone to “take care of them.” But it cheapens a woman’s choice to stay home with her kids. A one income budget doesn’t often go far in the real world.

Shonda Rhimes is upset that mommy and me classes are during the day when she has to work.

She’s outraged? Missing the point more like. These classes are for moms who are isolated day in and out — terrorized by tiny humans. Did she ever consider we need the moral support and structure, somewhere to be during the day, a rare place that can welcome...

Masika: Excellent read! This empowering book is filled with great inspiration for those feeling held back, closed off to their own potential, unhappy and looking to live more authentically. I think Shonda bares her soul and demonstrates how she made big changes, overcame significant hurdles and how she’s living a vibrant, full, healthier and happier life. She’s a true role model for all women! I think this book will speak to many women of many walks of life, however I imagine the core concepts could be just as helpful to men as well.

When I read this book I could see where adjusting what I say YES to and what I say NO to could make all the difference in improving the quality of my life. Shonda doesn’t take the easy and lazy way. She worked incredibly hard to change her life. As she says, anything worth having takes hard work. Shonda doesn’t preach or tell the reader what to do. She just tells her own story in a brilliant, witty and entertaining way.

Kathleen: Let me start by saying I have never in my life written a review, and now my first one is going to be crazy long. My daughter started me binge watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix a few months ago. I had never seen it before and I started with Season 2 because that's what she was on. Not only do I think the show is awesome, but it has been like therapy. For the last few years my mother, who was incredibly intelligent and eccentric, had been dealing with an inoperable aneurysm, dementia and a TBJ. The person I grew up with was gone and that was devastating. On top of which I could not care for her the way she did for me which was even more devastating. It's a horrible time in my life where I also realized who my real friends are. The way Shonda Rhimes depicted Meredith and how she dealt with her mother's Alzheimer's helped me more than any book or support group. She showed me that my feelings were valid - even though at times the were nostalgic and loving and at other times they were awful. I then became completely addicted to Grey's and continued to watch. One of the reasons I binge watch Netflix is that I'm tired of the news media and seeing all the bad and wrong in the world. I'm...

"Year of Yes" ist so ein Buch.
