RunsWithScissors: The Serrated head on the first unit was welded on at a angle, not parallel with the shaft, and not centered on the shaft. The square metal plate that pushes out the plugs rubs on the inside of the Serrated head. The foot bar also has a noticeable bend to it.

There really is no good excuse for this sloppy workmanship. I will exchange it and see if they bothered to make measurements and check Angles before welding on the next one. I thought I purchased A TOOL, not a thing haphazardly thrown together Without Making measurements and checking angles. without an apparent quality control!

Am I wrong to expect some quality for my money? Wrong to expect it to be straight and centered? For someone do have actually measured and checked angles before welding?

And while I’m on a roll with my complaining, the thing is too damn short! Ok, I’m 6’4” but that is not very unusual in America, or Europe for that matter. This thing feels like it was made for a child. Perhaps made by a child also. Make a man sized version!

If the replacement that I apparently have to wait another two weeks for is also put together haphazardly, I’ll just take the damn thing to a...

Roger Hurd: I've never had a St. Augustine lawn. At our new home I had to dig up the yard to fix some plumbing. Unfortunately I killed a lot of the lawn and afterwards the weeds just took over. I bought some weed and feed and put it out only to find in the fine print "do not use on St. Augustine" I was able to save some of the lawn, but had very large spots that were just dirt. I bought this plugged and transplanted some plugs from a good section of the yard and purchased some more plugs. Saved my lawn. My only complaint is the tool seems a little too short. I'm not a tall guy at 5' 10" but this tool could've been made a bit taller. Other than that it works great and is sturdy.

gopi: I don’t like it they hard to use the round sod plugger tool works better than squared plugger

Mark O’Brien: It does work, takes a bit of back and forth pushing to work, but gets a nice square chunk of turf out. Either a soft mallet tap of turn upside down and bang on grass to remove.

rolltide61: like a lot of folks have commented on-might have to use a rubber mallet to eject the plugs-but is a great tool for either transplanting Bermuda grass sod or using Zoysia Farms or Harmony Zoysia 3 inch grass plugs. the tool works great for both. The soil must be moist to work correctly, but it works great. i purchased the Yard Butler Sod Plugger, because it was 3 inches x 3 inches (per plug) instead of 2 and a quarter inch plugger by Pro Plugger-which i had tried to use with my three inch purchased plugs and it was just not as large a diameter hole as needed for the 3 inch plugs. If you purchase either 3 inch Zoysia or Bermuda grass plugs--all you have to do to get them to thrive (with this tool) is dig the three inch hole and press the plugs in the ground with your hands or your feet and they will be fine. i have used this tool to transplant current Bermuda sod to bare spots in the lawn and i have a very nice Bermuda lawn, in the sunny areas. And great looking Zoysia in the shaded ares, that were from purchased 3 inch plugs. you can't go wrong with this fine tool!

firefly: Where I live in FL, you don’t have to worry about clay soil (had that up north...ugh!) as soil is loamy/sandy for the most part. You do have to deal with tree roots and other grass roots. I found this very good at easily punching thru the soil. I’m not sure why other models don’t have the sawtooth edge; I would think it would make cutting into the soil very difficult without this feature. These “teeth” readily cut into the soil and pulled the plug out. When I encountered difficulty getting the plug I pulled out to drop out (i.e., I could not get rod at top to force it out, because there was a grass root stuck in there), I lightly tap the rod with a mallet. Works like a charm. Makes putting in plugs a breeze. Wish I had done this a long time ago! Tool is sturdy and well made.

This little tool is GREAT!! Just great. It could have some improvements and I will cover that at the end. There is no need for a long review, it just works. I have clay type soil in North Mississippi and the ground is still very moist from a recent rain. I had 72 St Augustine plugs to put in and this tool pulled out the square plugs of soil with ease. However, to push down on the rod with your hand is a pipe dream. That does not work. I simply took a rubber mallet and hit the round nob at the top each time to knock out the soil plug. It just was not worth the effort to try and push it out by hand.

This thing works great for pulling up plugs to transplant as well. So if you have a source, for say St. Augustine, it will pull them up very nicely so you can then transplant them elsewhere. I purchased my first 72 plugs but I will be using this to go and pull 400-500 plugs from my inlaws yard to put in mine. If you pull 400-500 plugs, say 18" apart and fill in the holes with dirt, the grass will grow back over it within weeks. I could not imagine doing this by hand or with a shovel!!

It they really wanted to make...
