The Vornado EVDC300 Energy Smart Evaporative Humidifier is the perfect choice for those looking for an easy-to-maintain, easy-to-set-up, and reliable humidifier. This 1-gallon capacity model features a low-water indicator light that shows when it’s time to refill, a smart DC motor that offers whole-room humidity circulation up to 1,000 sq. ft, and multi-speed fan settings for customizing according to your needs. Plus, it comes with an automatic shut-off feature and LED display for easy monitoring. With its superior build quality and excellent customer support, the Vornado EVDC300 is one of the best Humidifiers available.Fantastic: It’s a hard-to-clean design, a difficult-to-open water tank. While it has some positive features, such as being noise-free, its drawbacks make it a less desirable option for purchase.

John C.: This seems to be a very good product. Nice looking, not bulky. Easy to use and clean. I did wake up one morning with water on the floor when I had this set in the Energy Smart mode with the humidity level set at 40%. Not sure what happened there, but I cleaned up, refilled and set the mode back to normal still at 40% and fan on high (not turbo) and everything is operating fine.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: The variable speed fan used to move the air is a noisy, vibrating monstrosity, and you can tell it's a piece of junk just from a glance. Nearly 50% of the fan diameter is hub - it looks like the kind of cheap CPU fans you got back in the 486 days. (It's the one pictured on the left.) Despite the modern standard 12cm diameter, it's thicker with a non-hub fan area of only 74cm², driven by 7 stubby, aggressively pitched blades. They didn't even bother mounting it with rubber grommets.
I replaced it with a cheap computer case fan from an ancient bulk order (still hard-bolted on without vibration dampening), and while now it only works at one speed, it move about as much air as the medium speed, while being quieter than the previous low speed. And of course it is - this standard, off-the-shelf mass-produced design has a non-hub fan area of 93.5cm², driven by 9 gentle curved blades, moving high volumes with minimal turbulence at any speed. And keep in mind, this isn't a Noctua or some such - it's something I bought in a 4-pack a decade ago because it was cheap and useful to keep on-hand for occasions like this.
I'm keeping mine now that I've fixed it, but if you don't...

Lewis XavierLewis Xavier: The EVDC500 is a cool wick evaporative unit, so it doesn't leave the white mineral residue "cool mist" units do. Since it doesn't heat water to generate steam, it's more energy efficient and the humidity is more natural. The unit works well and maintains precise humidity levels between 40% and 60% - normal household range - adjustable in 5% increments. It's well made and intelligently designed. Here are the pros and cons...
Pros: modular design, easy to take apart and clean; simple settings, easy to use, set and forget; DC motor is energy efficient, quiet "eco" setting. Fast, friendly, customer service.
Cons: fan is noisy on high setting; evaporator wicks need seasonal replacement; tanks are made of fragile hard plastic, must be removed for filling, will break if dropped.
One of the tanks on my unit arrived with a crack - not a result of shipping. Customer service FedExed a replacement which I received the next day, no questions asked. Now that's what I call reliable customer service,
Update: The unit works perfectly after several months of 24/7 use (humidifying my guitar room). No problems at all, so I've upgraded this review from 4 to a well deserved...

R. Bourne: Last year, I bought EV100 which went straight to recycle bin because of technical issues - wick wouldn’t get wet no matter what!
Apparently, it was a known issue based on reviews on Amazon (US)! But, we threw out the box before using it for first time!
This time, even though there are tons of complains with small cracks on its tanks, I decided to give it a try - without throwing the box!
Thankfully, everything is 100%. No cracks and wicks get water perfectly.
However, it’s ugly! I liked EV100 / 200 design more than this one! It was unique and kind of reminded me of Star Trek stuff! LOL
This one is not that bad though. I can live with it as long as it works. The energy saving feature is nice to have considering Vornado’s smallest fans use over 20W!
The wick is kind of expensive and this one requires 2 = around $12 ~$18 depending how seller feels like!! I bought 5 pack for $12 and good to go until Spring!
I wish we could fill the tanks from top instead of removing them completely and take them all the way to sink! Many similar products have switched to top filling.
Closing the tank’s lid, you must be extra careful and...

Stock up on wicks while you can!!!!!!!
The wicks finally were in stock on Amazon and in stores like Bed Bath & Beyond starting in the spring of 2018. The new wicks MD1-0034 seem stable to me - as stable as the original wicks that came with the unit. I'm am happy again. I am going to buy up to a dozen wicks to have stock for the winter (I own two EVDC500's). If it's anything like last winter they were out of stock for at least 4 months.
------Original Review Below------
This review will stay at 1 star until I can get my hands on replacement wick filters that are the same quality as the wicks that came with the humidifier (MD1-0034). First and foremost, the wicks are sold out everywhere, online and in-store, including Vornado's website. This has been the case for many weeks. Secondly, the reviews for the replacement wicks are complaining that they are thinner than the originals that came in the factory box, and disintegrate after a few weeks of use. I'm worried that the out-of-stock issue could be due to some sort of recall due to defective manufacturing or bad engineering decision making.
OK now for the...

Craig: UPDATE 3: It's now been 3 years since Vornado replaced my original defective tanks which were causing my units to leak. I've had no problems since. Upgrading the rating to 4 stars now that long term durability and reliability has been established. I also want to update the original review to note that I always use the eco mode now. I can't verify whether it uses less energy - but it's a lot quieter.
UPDATE 2: My machine is no longer leaking after Vornado replaced all 4 tanks on my two machines. There needs to be no air inside for them to work properly, and once there's an air leak, they will drain themselves without stopping, causing the water leak. The plastic these tanks are made of is not strong enough to handle the weight when filled, so I expect this to happen again. I'm raising my rating for to 3 stars because of the excellent customer service, but the design is still flawed, so this will never get the 5 stars in my original review. Vornado said they will replace tanks indefinitely even past the the warranty, which tells me they're aware of the flaw. But at least they stand by the product. So if yours leaks, call for new tanks. I still like it despite all...

Andrew C.: This really should be 4 1/2 stars.
I have a larger bedroom, about 270 square feet and I keep it at 55%. After the first couple days of saturation, using almost 2 gallons a day, it slows up a bit and only uses about 1 gallon (should be less with a smaller room). When I bought it last year, I used it for a month and it started pulsing, which I found out means that it thinks it's low or out of water, even though the right tank was still full. I tried switching the tanks to the opposite sides, made sure it was level and that it was properly cleaned, etc. Vornado sent me a new one and it was fine and everyone's still baffled.
