Comments

JackInTN: Good observations, but sorely needs updating. Tesla is now very profitable and still expected to grow at about 50% annually. So far they are on track (mid 2023)

Mark Attias: It’s nice to read a book that captures your attention and a obvious TESLA FAN.
And a very good description of Elon Musk.

Mr. Difficult: I like the analysis, but it leaves you hungry for more up to date analysis since this stops around December of 2020

Photo-Op Dave: I don’t think the author has done more to reveal the inner workings and potential of Tesla than any other writers, but he has done it without putting me to sleep. Bravo! 4 out of 5.

Amazon Customer: I found this book to be a very refreshing read. The author provides a neutral perspective on Tesla stock, he is neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. He owns a Tesla, loves the user experience, and cannot see himself ever driving a car with a combustion engine again. But still, as a professional value investor, he decided not to buy Tesla stock, at least not in summer 2020: given Tesla's stock price, it's simply not a value stock right now. This book is an easy, enjoyable read, based on solid research both on business/financial and technical aspects of the automotive industry.

Olivier M.: Many thanks for this research. First I would like to praise you for your constant attention to clarity. I read a lot of research and yours is one of the best written. It is also full of humanism, on top of it's obvious technical contribution. Paintings, music, discussions about life. It sometimes reminds me of some Mankell novels, without the melancholy 🙂!
Marketwise I am not a fundamental Equity investor, but a rates derivatives trader who looks for short term trading opportunities. Regarding Tesla, I had been looking recently for a selling window, through options, but find the momentum too compelling to jump in. E Musk is an outsized personality, visionary but also business savvy enough to draw fundings behind his ideas. A Tesla with some of Edison skills... Nevertheless I'm afraid of his brilliance at the same time, afraid that his potentially narcissistic personality might embark into a pure quixotic fight with shareholders money.
Your research weighs pros and cons, and is an eye opener for cautionary position taking since the jury is still out.

Mike Stewart: The Author writes exceptionally well - clear, accurate, deeply researched analysis & synthesis on the transformative aspects of the Electric Vehicle (EV) that Elon Musk and the Tesla have introduced to the world. He keeps the explanations simple and relatable. This is fun to read, as well as informative. Horse & Buggy Model displaced over time by the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Model, which will in turn be displaced by the EV Model, over time. While infrastructure expansion is required for further growth, it will come, just as it took time for the ICE infrastructure.

I look forward to a time when I don't own a vehicle - simply call up an autonomous vehicle without the legacy configuration of the ICE. It's a great future!

J Reviews Stuff: Vitaliy does a masterful job of analyzing Tesla and the future of the EV market. I enjoyed his perspective not only as a customer but as an investor as well. He calls out Tesla’s strengths and weaknesses and creates a compelling case for the future of EV cars, and the pending collapse of the ICE car market. His examples, such as the iPhone changing the landscape for phones and Amazon for e-commerce, help make this case. I recommend this book for anyone thinking of buying a car in the next 3-5 years. It’ll change your perspective on what car you may end up buying.

Prashanth: First things First. Thanks to the author for offering the book free of charge.

The book is a story about Tesla and how its breaking walls and grounds which can shake up the Automotive Industry as we see it today. If you have been following Tesla or Elon Musk, you know a lot. While the book is small, a considerable part of the book is spent on introducing Tesla to those who may not have been exposed to the car / tech company.

For much of the book, it appears the author is a fan boy of Tesla as he seems to sugget that the opposition will fall because as he says when transiting from one domain (ICE) to another (EV), many of the assets and much of the knowledge from the old domain becomes liabilities in the new one. He cites the example of Nokia vs Apple to show how Nokia wasn't able to challenge Apple because of its imability to shift to the new domain of smart phones.

The last couple of chapters are the real deal in the book where the author tries to value the company and takes a look at the Pro's and Con's of Elon Musk running the company. Is Tesla worth what its trading at today? Maybe not, but Tesla has changed the dynamics of the Industry and that won't die...

Ajay P: Good writing but blah opinions..
The author struggles with risk, very uncomfortable with it, ver nostalgic about old success stories of munger and the cancer called buffet... humanity will progress the day, when both those cancers die.. they are a burden on humanity or it’s progress.
When there is risk taken, the author struggles with timeline the risk taker has “promised”..
Coming to the end of the book, it felt like author is very scared about the outliers or people different than him, I worry about the do-ers when this old soul ( author ) is looking for some comfort to hold on to..
Time and time again, the priests of the old will raise pitchforks against the new, against risk takers, judge them by their words, point finger at their flaws.. this is an example right here..
I hoped for objectivity but I only got fears and complaints why musk doesn’t fit the profile of jobs or other Nokia idiots...
I regret reading this small book, it was free, yes.. waste of my time tbh
