easy to use, but it has problems latching and holding onto the core stem. Had to manipulate several times to make it work without losing refrigerant.

This worked great for our dyi hvac project. No leaks and smooth function of the unit. Seems to be put together well for a low priced unit. I can't speak to it's durability, but it was a good investment for a diy project.

The product description focuses on the fact that this improved model does not leak, as presumably earlier models did. For this feature the manufacturer gets full points. It does not leak.
The problem arises with the “grabber, as the documentation calls it. The device lets you unscrew the old valve core, but does not “grab” it in any way. You would think that the refrigerant pressure would push the core out, but in fact the refrigerant escapes past the core as you are unscrewing it, so it has equalized on both sides by the time the thread is clear.
I tried many times with the same result. Using this device to unscrew the old core is easy. Getting the old core from the valve to the removal chamber is impossible, making this product not only useless, but also a huge waste of time. I chose this item over the name brands because it was available for immediate shipment at a lower cost. Mistake.

Had to order 3 of these to get a good one. One had a nick on side port another had defects on shaft. One I kept worked perfect, Good value for money. One thing I would make different - rotate side port 180 degrees, so the turn off valve is in front, not rear when attached to most AC units.
