Nicole Chang: So glad I discovered this author, she is a top fave and so is this particular book, which was also my 1st from the author... great story telling of romance, history, and steam... her characters from the gilded era all live in the same universe, so should try to read them in order of publication... while they can be read as stand alone novels, the cohesiveness of the schupe universe is truly a joy to navigate through in chronological order... this is my fave in this series... absolutely love how the MCs are all very different (personalities and proclivities)

Marsha: The Rogue of Fifth Avenue begins the Uptown Girls series with a story that captured my imagination from the beginning to the final page. As a reader, I’ve become familiar with the Regency/Victorian age romances and the Western Historicals of the same general time period. I have not read much about the upper New York society of the Gilded Age and I found myself fascinated with a look into a world that I knew existed but hadn’t dived into until now.
Mamie and Frank are an unusual couple from different positions in life at a time in history when those differences mattered far more than they should. Mamie is facing an arranged marriage yet until that is announced and finalized she is enjoying her life in society – and doing her part of helping those less fortunate than herself. The means that she employes to accomplish this are both ingenious and dangerous. But she will not be swayed nor stopped by anyone, especially by her father’s lawyer who has admittedly come to her rescue (she didn’t think she needed rescuing thank you very much) on several occasions now. The latest situation she finds herself part of will change everything, open her eyes to the corruption around...

Rani: Marion (Mamie) Green, has resigned herself to marrying Chauncey - the son of her father’s wealthy and close friend/business associate, a man her father feels is the right kind for their family and her, never mind that despite knowing each other since infancy, Mamie and her fiancée scarcely interact and the man has no intention of upholding any vows of fidelity.
Frank Tripp is Mamie’s father’s attorney, one of the most prominent layers in New York, he knows he should keep well clear of Mamie, and tell her father about her activities rather than rescuing her and then helping her to sneak back home, and yet he never does. When Mamie comes to him, insisting he help a woman who has been charged with murder, his ability to keep away from her and the temptation she represents quickly dissipates.
I do wish we had seen more of Frank falling in love with Mamie on page, as he’d known her and her family for some time.
Mamie’s dad at times annoyed me so badly, I was hoping someone would kick him - HARD. Luckily, he comes good in the end and sends Chauncey and his father packing. I do wish the author had allowed us to see his wife give him a good telling off...

Luz Trevino: I liked it, but I wished I had loved it. I’m a fan of Ms Shupe’s Four Hundred Series, but this first book of the Uptown Girls series was just an okay read for me. I had a difficult time getting into it, but I did love Mamie! I loved her independent attitude and her big heart. Frank was an okay hero. His attitude towards his background was a little off putting in me liking him. I can’t believe it took him so many years to connect with his family. Though he does redeem himself in the end, it did take him a broken heart to see the error of his ways.

TracyJane: As a fan of the Four Hundred Club, I was excited to learn that this book was going to be about a familiar secondary character from that series, the dashing and brilliant lawyer, Frank Tripp. In the previous series, Frank has been portrayed as a rakish bachelor with a knack for getting the impossible done for his clients. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but I am happy to say I was completed blown away - it was way better than I imagined and that is saying a lot as I had very high hopes...
For the past few months, Frank Tripp has been helping Marion "Mamie" Greene out of tight spots, he tells himself it is just because her father is one of his best clients, but the truth is, she intrigues him like no other woman ever has and even though he knows she can never be his, he can't seem to walk away.
Mamie leads a bit of a double life, society darling by day and a bit of a Robin Hood at night. She gambles and even steals to raise money for the poorest of the poor in NYC - people who have been refused charity because they refuse to convert religion. Mamie has befriended and aided several families and helps support them with her night-time activities. Activities...
