Mandy G.: One of the best books I've read

Michelle Boytim: This is Diana Nyad’s memoir, focusing on her epic journey to swim from Cuba to Key West. The book opens with the details of a failed attempt, thwarted by stings from potentially deadly jellyfish, and then moves back into her past, detailing how she became a long-distance swimmer and some of the traumas of her childhood that she overcame. The book covers the incredible training regimen for each attempt and the team building and fundraising required. The team had to deal with multiple challenges: sharks, the difficulties of the currents and weather, finding a way to keep Diana on course in the water, providing sufficient nutrition and fluids, and the dreaded jellyfish. The book ends with her successful crossing at age 64, on her 5th attempt and her inspirational statement when she reached the shores:
1. Never, ever give up.
2. You’re never too old to chase your dreams.
3. It looks like a solitary sport, but it’s a Team.

Dr G C: At 52, this book has the ability to turn a life around. An extraordinary woman who found a way and never gave up. No matter your story this book has a way to inspire you to channel your inner self belief. Enjoy.

Paul Kiczek: Diana Nyad holds an inexplicable power to push herself beyond personal limits. Whether that was created from innate personal strength or forged from unfortunate personal circumstances, we get to share a bit of what it’s like to live a willful life on the edge. There is a life lesson here for all of us.
I guess I’ve always wondered what drives people to do the impossible. For many like me, Diana’s stories have been heard over the years in short but stunning news blurbs, like swimming around Manhattan or across the English Channel. Diana was always a pioneer in these feats not to mention how she elevated the capability of women each time she broke a new record. These records get broken. But, what remains each time for all of us to ponder is the question “What are our limits?”
The book is a well-written riveting autobiography told around her ultimate personal challenge - completing a 110 mile swim from Cuba to Florida. The bizarre conditions of the sport of open water ocean swimming allows only to provide and protect, but not assist her swim or float in any way, She is adrift for over two days surrounded by a flotilla of boats and staff that can only help...

Snozz: Brilliant inspiring book. It's made me get back into swimming after a few years of not doing much. Every time I go for a paltry 30 minute "long swim" in the sea I think of Diana and I marvel at her courage and persistence. Such an interesting book from a biological point of view also - 're jellyfish, currents, sharks etc. Would recommend it to anyone swimmers and non-swimmers alike.

SoozeSays: "Find a Way" by Diana Nyad was our book club book for July 2016. This is the story behind ultramarathon swimmer Diana Nyad's dream of swimming from Cuba to Key West. There is a lot to admire in Ms. Nyad's struggle to become the first person to swim from Havana to Key West, without a shark cage. Her first attempts were in her late 20s, then after a 30 year hiatus from swimming, she began training again at age 60, culminating in a successful swim at age 64. The fact that she could accomplish such a feat, swimming 110.86 miles in open water battling currents, jelly fish and more for 52 + hours is truly amazing, but what makes this book a good book for discussion, is the deeper backstory. Why was she so driven? How much did the horrors of her young life factor into her determination? Was this a dream or an obsession? She could never have accomplished it without the support of so many loyal and equally dedicated friends and teammates - but at what cost to them?
I would give this book 2-3 stars for it's uneven writing style - the editing could have been better. I had a hard time starting it but I gave it 4 stars because there are truly so many issues to discuss and a lot of...
