Yousaf A.: Such a great book. Was like looking in a mirror to fix myself!

Learned to love the plateau, the path towards mastery.

Ben Young: It seems a lot of this book was from the perspective of martial arts. I am unfamiliar with martial arts myself, so there was perhaps a lot that went over my head in that regard. But there are also some really good moments that I learned from. I’m not sure I could confidently say one could master some thing from this book but it definitely is a great start.

ABZ: Mastery has given me tools to never give up.

Learning never stops.

If you want to succeed this book will give examples and the tools.

I have learned so much from George Leonard and I can now see what I have to do to achieve my ambitions. I have read this book during lockdown a time where I had time to reminisce about the past and where I went wrong. The one thing I discovered was that I never listened to myself instead of other people who telling me to go in directions that left me completely miserable.

For the first time in my life this book mastery has taught me to finally do the things I am strong and passionate about.

Read this book and I hope you succeed and do something great.

6. Helps you to use mastery to become the best at your field.

The long version -
Mastery isn't just a skill you master and be done with; it is a lifelong journey without an end. This book makes you think deeply about mastery. The author explains various processes involved in mastery and how in the present society where mastery is extinct, must come back.

The book teaches you the subtle art of mastery and how you can apply it in your daily life. The first part of the book explains how mastery is almost non-existent in the present world. People love instant gratification and instead of pursuing a meaningful goal, they are running after their next dopamine high. The society is trying to bombard you with endless amount of instant gratification and pleasure. Remember, this book was...

Airi: I read this book around 2 times now but digitally. I finally have the chance to read it physically haha I really do enjoy the content of the book. Mastery is a concept that we tend to overlook especially when we are phoned to want results right away.

Mastery has taught me to just keep on pushing on with practice, slow down and just enjoy where I am in the present. It's hard to do so, but I'm learning and I will probably read this book a handful of times before I can get better at focusing on the process versus the result.

Thank you.

GD: i had read the PDF copy few years back. This time bought hard copy and read it. This is an exposition on what it takes to become a master in any domain. Leonard has highlighted the Path and the steps on that Path that one needs to take to attain true mastery in any domain- art, business, sports, craft, science etc. He has also highlighted pitfalls one needs to guard against on this journey. for example , the typical plateau one inevitably experiences on a long and arduous journey towards a mastery in any domain. he asks us to learn to love such plateaus. The book highlights importance of diligent and long term practice. Often times the practice is the goal. He asks us to love the practice for the sake of it. Not easy for today's get quick result culture but that is the path followed by many true masters even today. Leonard says there are no short cuts to mastery of any kind. The book is influenced by some of the principles of Zen.
This book was written in early 90s. Today we have many books on this topic of mastery and excellence (E.g. Talent code, Outliers, Talent is overrated, Mastery etc). But this book was seminal book on this topic written way back.
The book is really...
