PSo: My 10 yr old plays for a travel baseball team and was going through a season long slump. He was very nervous at the plate and swung as if he was very scared to strike out (but struck out in doing so quite a bit). I asked him what was in his mind when he was up at the plate and he told me sometimes, he would worry about getting negative feedback from the coaches if he didn't hit and sometimes he would think about letting his teammates down if he didn't do his part. Poor kid felt really down in the dumps so I decided to get this book and have him read it.
There are parts that of course he couldn't totally understand so I helped him through those parts. I am going to be very honest and say this books has some good / simple / concise chapters that really helped him focus. I could see him do the suggestions of the book while he was in the dugout, at the batters box, etc. too. Amazingly, shortly after he read the book, he got out of that slump (let's hope it stays that way). I can say confidently that the book did help him focus on what's important while at the plate and drown out all those extra thoughts.
