KimberDee37: I wasn't able to see what the pages looked like from Amazon, but I was able to find a review of the book on YouTube. The illustrations, tips, and many projects are divine! Divine! I regretted the purchase of many books that now sit on my shelf gathering dust. This one will never gather dust! Artist of all ranges will find something to learn!

Valued Customer: As with any purchase, I read all the reviews, good and bad! I will say this, if you are new to water color painting, don’t judge this book to be lacking, everything is there, it’s just a medium that you have to practice to get good at. Really!
I would suggest getting on to youtube and watching a few beginner watercolor videos before trying any watercolor book with techniques. It would help with the references to technical terms and techniques. Also, watch videos on color theory, it helps when trying to pair paint colors and how to mix them to get the color you want.
As far as the comment about not enough examples, with watercolor, especially in the learning stages, you do a lot of the basic washes she shows on pgs 28-30. the rest of the tutorials show you how to put it together. Once you know the basics, there’s not a lot more to do, just repeat and paint! Main thing with WC is patience. Let each layer dry before you go on to other areas of the painting. Dont be scared to mess up, it’s going to happen, it’s how you learn!
I love this book, she has some really sweet illustrations and I love the texture and designs she uses. As the book’s title states,...

Charles MacPhersonCharles MacPherson: I heard a review from a fellow watercolourist on YouTube who raved about this book, and so I trusted their opinion and bought myself a copy. Here is my personal experience.
I find myself reading sections at minimum two or three times before proceeding with the exercises. I want to fully understand exactly what the authouress is saying . I find the exercises challenging and that is exactly what I want.
From these exercises, my knowledge and technique is vastly improving. If you want simple feel good lessons and exercises just for distraction this is not the book for you. If you want to actually learn something through practice and to ultimately be good at what you are doing, this is the book for you! Seriously without hesitation. I am enjoying this book and sincerely happy I bought it.
Ok now back to my exercises!

Solpheno: I find this is a good compliment to another watercolour book I’m reading and does have some useful advice here and there but for me personally I find the book itself has a lot of “this works for me so you should do it this way” sort of commentary instead of offering advice or facts on what does or doesn’t work with this painting media or offering their experience & preferences as a guide or alternative for other painters looking to learn...personally I found this particular book quite rigid in its views on how watercolour is to be taught & done. It’s an alright read if that’s what one is looking for though and can be nice to see through some of the ideas presented in here but all in all I would have went with another book for learning as a beginner myself...bt perhaps someone else would enjoy her style more. I give this 4 stars still though because there are a few techniques she does that we’re new to me that I enjoyed as well.

Belinda: The product was awesome but Amazon, instead of using my chosen debit card, put this to my Amazon.com account and charged me a $25 late fee after sending no paper billing, which I choose. I received a call from someone in India who spoke very poor English named Nancy. She told me it was impossible to remove a late billing charge for two supposed bills sent in April and May. I asked to be transferred to the US and Tobi in Canton, OH removed the late charge and I paid the bill. The artist/author should know about this as well as her readers and those involved with Amazon. It appears that at least twice per year, they roll up their high interest "Amazon.com" from a different bank than their credit card up to the top and if you do not check carefully, you will be billed, receive no bill if you choose paper billing, and be hit with a late fee. This makes me want to buy directly from artists who would receive more money anyway, plus it would likely be a signed copy from them. Sorry, Danielle, we're friends on FB and I apologize for airing Amazon's dirty laundry on your book which is FABULOUS AND SHOULD BE BOUGHT BY EVERYONE!

MG McCartney: This is the second book that I have purchased from this artist. The second one is much better than the first and yet in both I have been able to learn so many new techniques. Some folks may find it tedious to read about the nuts and bolts of an artist's supplies - I find it refreshingly honest ! One of my favorite parts of this book - and I have to say that I am working through in methodically so there may be more - is page 47 where Donaldson describes the meditative quality of watercolor. It is perhaps my favorite part because it is the way I feel about the art form also..."To me, watercolor creates a level of mindfulness--an alternative to traditional meditation.....I am fully present. The world inside my noggin is a crazy, mixed-up, fast-paced place. And it makes me tired. So tired." If you have never tried watercolor as meditation. as "being present" here is your doorway. Open the book and enter.
