Client d'Amazon: Lot of inspiring insights for Artists, even if the book is more focused for US based artists who want to enter the "contemporary" art market, it's a must read with a lot of powerful insights!

I tried my absolute best to fault this book. To find one bit of information that wasn’t thoroughly explained, or perhaps overlooked entirely.
I expected it to provide the same cliche arguments and rudimentary advice I received from my professors while completing my Masters degree in fine art. This book addresses… EVERYTHING! From how to price your art, find gallery representation, manage a studio visit, properly network, and so much more! With this one book, I learned all I did not during 2 years of graduate school.
The tone feels like you are talking to an old friend; the one that gives you the tough hard facts, but also tells you directly how to change and solve the situation, whilst you both laugh at a catchy punchline. Through Mr. Resch’s case studies, you’ll start to wisely analyze your creative practice, and the various options on how to secure your career path.
I will never sell this book nor will I loan it, as I’d be doing you a favor in making sure you purchase your own ;)

Brittany : When it comes to art books I typically roll my eyes and go about my day. They are usually the same generalized cliché on repeat; however, this book surprised me. I first heard about in on the Business Artist podcast where the author, Magnus Resch, participated as a guest. What caught my attention is how the author actually delves into the art market and explores the world of curators, galleries, successful artists, and the data that surrounds them. Now beware, the book is fairly pessimistic at times, but overall it’s a reality that you can mold to your liking in my opinion. I appreciate the content. Good stuff!

I just bought “How To Become A Successful Artist last week. It is not the first book I have related to art business advice, but I am literally in shock. I’m devouring it, eating and tasting every chapter and highlighting paragraphs with my yellow Staedtler Texsurfer classic.
The author, Magnus Resch dedicated the book to his father. I think he was proud of him. I also have “100 Secrets of the Art World”. A guy with a Ph.D. in Economics and a real love for arts is a win-win math formula.
To my fellow artists I just could shout: Buy this book and read it two or three times and start making your network right now!

I was one of the happy few to get a link to the free preview of How To Become a Successful Artist by Magnus Resch but I ended up buying a hard copy anyway because the format of the preview did not allow me to add annotations or highlight relevant points. The book is indeed packed with ‘too much’ useful information.
According to Magnus Resch, networking and understanding ‘Who is Who’ in the Art world is an essential ingredient for success and I must say that he has managed to offer the reader a starting point for doing just that through lots of ‘name dropping’. All the reader needs to do next is go online and find the names of the artists, galleries and art collectors that the author mentions and then potentially follow them on social media and reach out.
How To Become A Successful Artist is the result of years of thorough academic research and extensive data analysis but, instead of writing an academic thesis devoid of any practical use for the individual artist, Magnus has put together a very practical guide.
Some of the author’s findings in the book are counter-intuitive. For me, for example, one of the most surprising revelations was...

Melissa Goddard: I was lucky to receive a pre-view of ‘How to become a successful artist’, but knowing that this was going to be essential reading I purchased a hard copy also. I have been following Magnus for a while now, and find his knowledge within the art world extremely informative and geared to be tailored for the part-time novice to the fine art Goldsmiths grad. The book is no exception, full of very useful concrete advice, which you think being in brand myself would be obvious. Fascinating case studies from some of the coolest artists out there. I’m learning so much from this exemplary book, and in the past been far too shy to promote my artwork, I’m sure this book will give me the courage to make that change.

Gregory JS Gregory JS : Much to recommend in this tome on how to make it as an artist. Heavily data driven with numerous to the point interviews with top draw contemporary art players; I found it an instructive read from a writer who offers up a methodology for doing as the title of the book says.
