Daniela SM.Daniela SM.: This is the book I was looking for. Thank you, Bhavana. It has all the information you need to start the adventure. She is real and uncomplicated. I love the analogy of romance. If you are flirting with the idea to travel for good this is the book for you.
It is for us. Here we come 2024.

Shane: Don't normally review books, however... needed to drop a line to say how much i have enjoyed this book and found it truely inspirational. As someone in their fifties who's only 'raison d'être' is to travel, sometimes you need some reassurance that you are not alone !! I particularly love the chapter on 'Digitally Savvy but Minimal', as people constantly on their phones is a pet hate. I was fortunate to travel last year for five weeks and was amazed at the amount of time people in the hostel spent looking at their screens instead of talking. So, thank you for a fantastic book, it will inspire me to carry on and good luck for the future for you and everyone who, through this book, decides to pack a rucksack and 'hit the road'. Slowly.

Cristina Alexandra Costea: This is the first type of travel book I have ever read and it has only whetted my appetite for more! This has been a genuinely practical, eco-friendly and holistic a approach to “slow travelling”, principles from which can be applied to regular travelling too. I love the emphasis on communities and practical advice and the way in which it can be applied to travels across the entire world (yet this book is not so presumptuous as to tell you where to travel. That is for you to decide).

Captain Corey: Have a dream of living in another country but the fear of something bad happening or the equal fear of it not being fun? There’s nothing like having someone who has done it before to lay out the path for you. “The Art of Slow Travel: See the World and Savor the Journey”, details the author’s experience abroad in places like Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Peru and Denmark and her planning to get there, from SIM cards before leaving to health insurance when you arrive. There is page after page of things I wouldn’t have thought of. In this easy-to-read, step by step, how to book, the planning checklists include preparations for leaving; mail, packing, banking, the type of electric wall sockets in your chosen country, to how to find and use internet services, best service providers, tips for negotiating with landlords, spotting rent scams, secure travel safety, language translator apps, rental car collision insurance, ATM’s, PayPal, cybersecurity, even including accurately forecasting expenses before you leave, including local and seasonal fluctuations, and how to link up with other Americans/expats while doing it all cheaply. Now is the time to start...

Dennis Moore: Usually, for me, travel guides tend to be checklists, things to do or not to do when traveling. Slow Travel became so much more right from the start. Bhavana Gesota invited us into her world, to travel with her, to meet her friends, to become her friend. Then she took us on a multi-year, multi-country, multi-cultural journey to explore our world together, not just quickly, zipping in and out of a tourist destination before zooming back to work and the daily grind of our lives. She invited us to slow down, go off the beaten path, and take the time to not only know each place we visit: the local people, the local culture, but to take the time to get to know ourselves. Why do we want to travel? Why do we want to travel to specific places around the world?

Better yet, by reading The Art of Slow Travel, I feel that all of Bhavana's knowledge has been transferred into our minds, so that we can be assured of doing travel, especially slow travel, right. She goes through and identifies all the potential risks and problems that would arise with our slow travel plans, and then provides all the things you need to do to resolve those issues before you even set off. And I mean...

Steve P: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would encourage anyone contemplating travelling for extended periods to live amongst the indigenous populations of the world to snap up a copy!
Bhavana Gesota is well-travelled and has mastered the art of ‘slow-travelling’ which she defines as being “an offbeat, slow and responsible manner of travel in which everyday life unfolds within the framework of a different culture.” The author doesn’t just visit a place she absorbs it.
The book is set out in easy-to-read chapters and takes the would-be slow traveller through the process of decision-making before you depart, to travelling on a budget, renting accommodation, eating, surviving, staying safe and ‘fitting in’ to your new environs. The book is packed with useful references and is an invaluable guide to not only how to make the most out of your worldly travels, but also how to give back to the society in which you choose to settle (temporarily).
Throughout the reams of good, pragmatic advice, the author shares anecdotes to reinforce her points and I found these not only made what could have been a very ‘dry’ subject really interesting, but they also served as...

KEVIN BERRY, AUTHOR: This book was an eye-opener for me. I've traveled a lot, especially in Europe, but it was generally the 'see as much as you can in a short space of time' type of travel that most of us do. Apart from London, where I lived for a while. I read this book to understand how the experience of 'slow travel' would differ, and how to do it. Bhavana Gesota's book is a fantastic all-in-one guide to how to achieve this.
It's impossible to describe everything covered by the book. It's truly comprehensive. It starts out by breaking down the myths of how this lifestyle could be beyond you -- in the work-anywhere world we now live in, you could pack up your stuff and head off somewhere exotic while working. Or, as the author sometimes does, budget for some time off work to immerse yourself in a culture elsewhere. Think this will harm your career? That's one of the myths busted in this volume. Think you're too old, too young or not rich enough? Think again.
Each chapter deals with a different aspect of the journey, making the volume a useful resource covering everything from planning where to go, how and when to book flights and accommodation, what to pack, a method to decide your must-take...

Mona Nitin Shah: I have been practicing the slow life for over a year now, but slow travel? That's one desire that has only remained so, up until I read Bhavana Gesota's book, The Art of Slow Travel. Chapter by chapter the author takes you through her own life travels, travails, and triumphs. Umpteen dilemmas that are easily sorted right from packing the bags (Want Vs Can), the Heart, Head and Wallet struggles to decide destinations, ticketing, vaccinations, handling postal mail, baggage check-in options, transfer times, currency, leisure, work options. Simply all aspects of one's normal life are covered while living for long periods in the slow travel mode. I particularly loved the chapter Earn While You Travel as that was one of the points I was never able to understand - how to fund one's slow travel.
The whole book is replete with resources and tips that are practical. However, the line that will always stay with me is "I won my soul back'.
