Esther Schindler: ook -- we both know that I had you at jms.
Most likely, you've enjoyed a TV show or movie Straczynski created or was part of creating: Babylon 5, Sense8, the movie Changeling, even back to Murder She Wrote scripts. You've been impressed by the man's pure _range_, from futuristic science fiction to historical mysteries to comic books -- all the more impressive given what he's been through. (Any jms fan ought to read Becoming Superman.) So it shouldn't take a lot of urging to pick up his new novel, Together We Will Go. In fact, I pre-ordered it months ago, without the faintest idea what the story was about.
...and as it happens, it's about the uncomfortable topic of suicide.
Yeah, that wouldn't have grabbed me, either. But this is jms, which means he has an unerring ability to tell a story that makes you want to know _and then what happened_ no matter what is going on in the novel or in your own life. This is not the topic I'd have deliberately chosen as "escapism" while my spouse was in the intensive care unit, but I suppose its success in holding my attention that demonstrates the power of "Please take me to another world." (My husband is recovering. He'll be...

Dennis Cattell: I really enjoyed reading this novel. I found the characters fascinating and three-dimensional, really believable, and I read the book in three days, in between tiresome but necessary things like work and sleep. I didn't want the book to end, but it did, and before I got anywhere near tired or bored with it. Now dear reader, stop reading the reviews, just buy the book and read it!

TepiLizard (Liz Hatfield): I pre-ordered J. Michael Straczynski's newest novel "Together We Will Go" as soon as I learned that it was coming out, and I finished reading two days after its release.
As the title of this review indicates, I completely believe that EVERYONE needs to read this book. Likely, everyone who has had suicidal ideations in the past will know at least a dozen people who should also read it, and this is a reasonably priced gift to give.
IMO, the people who SHOULD read this are:
- those who have ever had suicidal ideations or made attempts, but are still around – you will know yourself to be seen and heard and understood;
- the family & friends, bosses & bullies, mentors & maligners, teasers & teachers of those who have have attempted, considered, or committed suicide – if you lack understanding, then you should appreciate the insight that would lead to that mindset or decision; and
- everyone anywhere who has any authority over others.
IMO, the people I believe NEED to read this, even if they do not want to, are:
- those who have emphatically decided that they will "never possibly understand" depression or suicidal ideation – your...

Troy A. Rutter: I've been reading and following Straczynski's works since Othersyde and Demon Night, and those familiar with B5 fandom might recognize my name as someone pretty familiar with Babylon 5 as well. So when I heard he had a new fiction novel out, I pre-ordered but never picked it up to read until June of 2023 and finished it in two days.
As any storyteller will tell you, even if you know what is going to happen (or supposed to happen) in a story, the truth and the story is in getting there.
A group of people traveling the country in a bus on the ultimate journey to San Francisco to commit suicide. Obviously, the novel will take you from Point A to Point B, right? Well, sort of.
The story is told in one big long chapter, interrupted only through the use of narrative, text messages and text-to-speech first-person journal entries of the participants. The entries are a requirement of being on the bus, even by the hired driver.
Through these entries, we get to know the characters and why they are there. What led them to be heading toward their final act? A left turn (so to speak) in the last third of the novel takes them on a new but familiar road, now with more...
