Stephen Weisert: These books are so sturdy!!
I was afraid they were going to be like comic book paper, but they are strong and will last for a long time!

BeadgamesBeadgames: I love tintin comics and have now finally begun to complete my collection. The comic has amazing graphics, crisp colour and a nice glossy finish so I'm very happy with the comic. However, the packaging done by amazon was terrible. Both the books have damaged corners. They came in a flimsy paper packet.. Considering I want to collect these books it's not nice to have them looking old already..

Meg: I bought this for my almost four year old grandson. He has been going through the complete collection and this one was missing. My daughter patiently reads them to him and each takes her 90 minutes to read aloud, and for such a normally hyperactive boy, he can focus and sit pretty quietly for the whole time, asking questions when he does not understand what is going on. Because these were written 50 years ago, they are eurocentric with racial and ethnic stereotypes, but if you can understand the era in which they were written, and discuss that with your kids as being stereotypes, they can still enjoy the books tremendously. My older grandkids have been reading them for years as well and I bought the entire set for them to have at their home (the set I have date back to my childhood in the 60s). GREAT BOOKS for girls and boys.

Sreekanth Nemani: I have bought this book and the follow up story "Red Rachham's Treasure' multiple times. I have also bought other Tintin titles over the years.
I have two nephews and some other young boys as neighbours. I have found these Tintin books to be the best way to instill some reading habit into boys that are not academically inclined. They enjoy the books a lot, and the books take about a couple of hours to fully read for the boys.
They are Ideal gifts for birthdays etc. for 7-12yr old boys.
One thing to note is some of the Tintin stories have two parts, but the stories are independent of each other so it is not necessary to read one part before the other. The double part books are -
- book 1 : Cigars of the Pharaoh
book 2 : The Blue Lotus
- book 1 : The Secret of the Unicorn
book 2 : Red Rackham's Treasure
- book 1 : The Seven Crystal Balls
book 2 : Prisoners of the Sun
- book 1 : Destination Moon
book 2 : Explorers on the Moon
The delivery and price on amazon is also the best I have seen.

J. Jago: This book was a present for my granddaughter - who, has always had a penchant for unicorns - a collector to boot! I was unsure that perhaps this interest may have diminished now that she is 14 years old. However, I read both the books myself before I sent them on and had great fun - and I am what might be said to be in my dotage. I hope to see or at least hear from her pretty soon and hope she didn't think - oh Grannie I've moved on long ago from unicorns. Well, I haven't. Neither will I ever move on from Tintin.
So - all I can say is let's hope!

F. S. L'hoir: Something for everyone! That's the secret.
And Hergé's "Secret of the Unicorn" fulfils that promise, launching readers of all ages on a whale of a great pirate adventure and treasure hunt with the intrepid Tintin. Accompanying our boy-reporter on his quest are the rumbustious Captain Haddock (who has never met a bottle of rum that he didn't like); and the defective detectives, Thompson and (to be precise) Thomson (identical twins whose names are NOT); their attempts to foil the notorious Bird Brothers are wildly inept, demanding the prompt interventions of Tintin and his incredible thinking dog, Snowy, who not only save the day but also find the treasure. The story, which focuses on maps and secret cyphers, is told with flashbacks, which introduce us to Haddock's ancestor, Sir Francis, and (Blue Blistering Barnacles!) his adversary, the notorious pirate Red Rackham, scourge of at least 5 of the 7 seas.
Happily, the publishers have preserved the British English, which contributes to the old-world charm of the series. The dialogue is literate and full of benign double entendres; and the narrative moves at such a pace that one has to slow down to savour the story, so...
