Lynne Smith: So well researched and fascinating. I didn't want it to end.

Tate: This book was just incredible - think of it as a breath of fresh air towards The Road to Eleusis, and similar books. The author presents compelling evidence without being dogmatic or forcing one to accept the authors assumptions - yet encourages you to dig further if so compelled.
Regardless if you are secular or not - this is a incredible book to add to your collection.

Richard Grisham: The book is loaded with intrigue and solid evidence. I am not a fan of the author's storytelling aspect, but that is a personal preference, not a legit criticism. Just know if you read, as I do, for information and not the personal experiences of the author - be ready to skim your way through a lot of fluff. However, at its core, this book does a good job of supporting its premises. There are good scientific, literary, and works of art to support the author's main conclusions, which is a welcome surprise for a book with such a provocative title. I would recommend this book as a solid look into the roots of Christianity.

David WILKS: I’ve listened to this three times on audible but had to buy a physical copy as there’s just so much information to take in. As an atheist this book made me question why I’m an atheist. It looks like I’ve been programmed, engineered down this inevitable road to atheism by a Religious system that has destroyed its connection to God. This book is a history of that very destruction. Of how organised religion took God from the house churches of Eleusis run by women who cooked up a secret recipe that enabled direct contact with the dead and most importantly a hotline directly to God. To the catacombs of Rome were we discover the massacres that took place in order to wipe out this secret knowledge. The more people that read this work the better chance we have of resurrection of this lost world. A world in which god existed on a daily basis. Not the godless world that exists today in which you are taught to have no contact with God or your dead relatives. learn nothing from them. Own nothing and be happy. So you’ll have no possessions and no god. This war has been raging since the very dawn of time. Read this book and together we can resurrect a long forgotten world in which the...

Doc: I found ‘The Immortality Key’ to be a truly fascinating read! The topic is well researched, and the book is well written. Given the amount of information covered, I appreciated the author’s frequent summarising of the overall discussion and the repetition of points made from previous chapters. Despite being a chunky book, it felt mostly concise. I didn’t find myself growing bored of laboured points or irrelevant details. I found that the book was easy to understand but didn’t feel overly simplified. Complex points offer enough explanation that you don’t need a background in linguistics, history, etc to understand the discussions.
If you’re curious about how ancient humans shaped the world we live in today, and how echoes of their beliefs and practices can still be found in modernity, this book will grip your attention from start to finish. If you’re a fan of Graham Hancock’s work (who wrote the foreword for this book), then you’ll definitely enjoy ‘The Immortality Key’.

However, I would like to address some of the comments that I read in this review section prior to purchasing the book. There are many reviews which claim that the author holds some...

Jack Hicks: The Immortality Key, The Secret History of The Religion With No Name
Brian C. Muraresku, 2020
In a cave in Egypt in 1948, a clay jar was discovered. Inside were ancient manuscripts of an early Christian sect called the Gnostics. I read Eliane Pagels “The Gnostic Gospels a number of years ago and was somewhat intrigued by some of the cryptic sayings contained in the Gospels. In the gospel of St. Thomas, Jesus says “Recognize what is before your eyes and what is hidden will be revealed” or “Men ask when will the kingdom of the father come? The kingdom is here now, and men do not see it”, “He who drinks from my lips shall be as I and I shall be as he”. A literal reading of these sayings would lead one to the thought that if one absorbed this secret Gnosis or knowledge, one could become transformed, become spiritually as a Jesus. Predictably this sect would be relentlessly persecuted and stamped out by the Vatican after the 4th century to the point that the only knowledge we have of these gospels is the single copies hidden away in a cave in Egypt. What was this secret knowledge that is referred to? This book by Brian Muraresku, attempts to answer this question by...

TrevorS: It would sound hyperbolic if I said this might be one of the most important books ever written, but it's honestly how I felt after finishing it. If you feel humanity is creating its own destruction, then the story revealed here could blow your mind,

The author describes how, since ancient times, a religion existed across the Western world that connected us to the earth and the spiritual realm through a psychedelic 'Eucharist' - a sacred beer or wine. He makes a case for Jesus being a key player in this tradition, and women having a central role in the brewing and delivery of this sacred drink - including within Christianity for the first 400 years - before they were marginalised and then destroyed by the Church after it became dominated by the patriarchy, and the psychedelic eucharist replaced by the bland offering it is today. It offers the hope of a return to a personal connection to god/gods/spirit without the mediation of priests, and with it a rebalancing of our relationship to the planet.

A couple of criticisms. despite me giving it five stars. It felt as if the author didn't trust his readers to follow his argument, so reprised the evolving story in a...

ABC: That `The Immortality Key’ has been written has been of great comfort for someone who has lived two separate lives. The first life involved an experience with pharmakon in the form of psilocybe cubensis (magic mushrooms) mixed with honey, that together with cannabis resulted in a vision from God.
I wrote a fictionalised memoir about the events that occurred during the 1980’s around that experience, but due to the hostility and fear of a society that no longer understands such experiences, very few have read “Life Before Death”.

The circumstances of the vision were as follows: A Sunday afternoon get-together with my older brother and two Greek friends was enhanced by the consumption of the mushroom mixture mentioned above. After what may have been a few hours, the effects of the ‘trip’ subsided, and we then sat around and partook of some cannabis. One of my Greek friends went to each member of the group and ‘anointed’ them with a spot of balm on the forehead. Then my brother and I were left alone in the lounge room.
Lying back on a couch, I went into a state which is described in Muraresku’s book as a ‘sleep of death’. My soul left my body, and I...

Raymond Kerr: The pagan continuity hypothesis makes so much sense. Brian Muraresku is quite the intrepid scholar. His thesis is not presented in dry academic prose but unfolds as a compelling narrative, a lively quest to unearth buried mysteries that shine a new light on history. This book not only illuminates the world of classical antiquity in exquisite detail, it excites the imagination. I love his determination to redeem Carl Ruck, the classicist who joined Gordon Wasson and Albert Hoffman to write “The Road to Eleusis”. Seems Ruck thereby torpedoed his promising academic career but did not let that deter him in the pursuit of truth. Muraresku’s vindication of Ruck is a touching story. This book is a true eye-opener. The Dionysian parallels with the Gospel of John alone hit like lightning. The author still subscribes to the notion of a historical Jesus, which I do not (see Richard Carrier). He is and always has been a visionary figure, in my view, for reasons too numerous to catalogue here. But be that as it may, Muraresku not only argues persuasively for the commingling of the Dionysian rites and the Christian Eucharist in the context of the first centuries of the Common Era but...
