Barb H: The lengthy volume is full of pictures of Egypt as Amelia Peabody would have seen it, and chapters full of background detail for her many adventures in the books. Glad I bought it!

AJC: If you love Amelia Peabody Emerson’s adventures, then this will take your enjoyment to a new level! Beautifully illustrated throughout, and with a wealth of detail. A book to treasure…and to escape into… 😁

Jeannie: This is a wonderful book by one of my favourite authors on Egypt who is also an Egyptologist.

Slugpuppy3: Amelia Peabody’s Egypt is a fantastic melding of history (as we now believe it to be) and the fictional exploits of the Emersons. The reader must remember that if any of the Emerson’s are mentioned, that particular section is not factual. The writing, the section arrangement, the photographs, and the engraving prints are all AWESOME!

Madelyn Della Valle: Gorgeous images and a fun look at Amelia Peabody's Egypt. Interesting background info. I read the whole book in a couple of days.

Miz: Brilliant. It has been criticized in other reviews for being written as if the Peabody-Emerson family and their exploits and achievements were real. They are not, of course - just take that with a pinch of salt and this is an entertaining addition to the annals, full of genuine facts and information, and very readable. Superb!

Texaslady: For those who love the Amelia Peabody books and Egypt, this is certainly a book you might want to add to your library. It works as a coffee table book stuffed with information about Egyptian culture during the Victorian age. Black and white photos, drawings, and illustrations add interest to the articles found in the book. No book about Egypt would be complete without articles on its history and archaeology. This is not a completely scholarly work as the characters from the Amelia Peabody books are often mentioned throughout the book.

pbk63: I got on to Barbara Mertz (writing as Elizabeth Peters in the Amelia Peabody series) when watching History of Egypt from the Learning Company and was hooked early on. Library has this book but wanted a copy of my own and glad to have it. The lithographs of the early days of exploration worth the price of the book. Not sure if she will write another book in the series but certainly hope she is up to doing it. Last one came out last year. Have read the other books she has written both fiction and non fiction and am impressed with the range of her ability. Still working on the books she wrote under another pen name - Barbara Michaels - and will be sad when complete all the 80 plus books she has written. If her wit does not get a chuckle or smile out of you then you have probably passed to the west bank of the Nile already! And the twists and turns of her mysteries make reading her books a pleasure. As an egyptologist she adds another dimension to her writing on ancient Egypt but she does not let pedantry get in the way of a great yarn and a good mystery. As with any author some of her books are better than others but few of hers do not rise to five star ranking. Our library was...

M. D. Buie: Amelia Peabody's Egypt is a total hoot. If you're a fan of Amelia's you'll love it from beginning to end. It has all kinds information about the Emerson family; their friends and their enemies; that you'll need (it's hard to keep up with all the enemies). The Egyptian history and the wonderful historical illustrations from the time of the Emerson's is worth the price of the book.

If you just want an easy to read book on Egypt with quaint illustrations, this book's for you too. However, you might be at a loss as to who is being referred to in the biography sections. Actually, I so believe in Amelia, Emerson and Ramses that I take offense at tomes on Egypt that don't mention them--but then I'm a huge fan of the Elizabeth Peters' creation.

This book is by my beside for those nights when I wake up at 3:30 and don't know what to do until time to get up.
