Rick: I can’t say enough about this book. I live in Northern Virginia, very close to so many of the battlefields of the war. Having read this will make me several more visits to them. My goodness, what a shame our country had to go through this awful war.

Irite2: Marching lines of soldiers into cannons like giant shotguns seemed so stupid. And, they were all trained at West Point!
so many times the outcome was by chance.
The armies were so large. Imagine the challenge of feeding so many for so long.
The misery was overwhelming.

Yvon Maurice: This book could have been entitled “A guidebook to the battles of the American Civil War and the Generals who fought them”. As such, it is quite a good book and I've learned a lot from it. But if you want to know about the other, equally important, aspects of this bloody conflict (e.g. the political and socio-economic framework; the short and long-term impacts that it had on American society), you will have to complement your reading with other books. Generally speaking, the book is well written albeit a bit tedious and dragging due to the monotonous nature of the subject matter.

p. day: A well written concise and accurate history of the Civil War. Really enjoyed the illustrations in the Maps which go along way to understanding the various battles and people involved.
A piece of American history that is accurately pretrade and cleared up some of the myths and the lies that have circulated for years.
A well written book of history that should be on everybody's bookshelf.
