Comments

Kristoffer: What an enjoyable cast of quirky characters! I loved both books in this series and hope the talented authors write more soon! Set in the late 80’s it’s a refreshing break from our present day technologically driven social scene.
I love stories that blend in Navajo & other Native American traditions, and these books blend in those traditions just lightly enough to add to the richness of the story telling.

Noonie Roonie: I love reading about Naomi and her capers. These books are an easy, fast read, and I find them to be perfect whodunnits. Thanks again, Burges, because you're knocking it out of the park so far .

T s fett: Recommend her books. Not exactly like Janet evanovich. But similar.

Ann Icar: There's something rather charming about these novels - the setting, the range of characters, the snarky humour - a subtly addictive combination.

I really hope there's going to be more books in the series... I'm hooked!

Bev Stacey: This is the kind of novel I love. Light hearted and fun with a little intrigue. I highly recommend this author! Can't wait to read more.

JRAlpine: “Bear Witness” by J.&D. Burges is an over-the-top mystery set in the (fictional) town of Sage Landing near where Utah, Arizona, and the Colorado River meet. A questionably funded movie company has settled into the resort area, and it’s not long before both locals and Hollywood types need the services of Carson Law—where Naomi Manymules works. The not-quite paralegal assistant to Grant Carson, Manymules is the soul of Carson’s operation and, fortunately, the narrator of the book. She is sensible, funny, sarcastic, and a reasonably competent single parent.

The tale opens with the local college president accused of murdering an actor she’d decked in a bar brawl and moves on from there. “Bear Witness” is not always a convincing read, but Naomi Manymules is irresistible.

Paulina Naj: Mystery is my genre—I enjoy the work of many writers, including both Hillermans and Margaret Coel. To my list of favorites I must now add J. & D. Burges, and their Naomi Manymules mysteries, which are well-plotted, tightly drawn and surprisingly funny. So far, there are two—I’m hoping there will be many more! Manymules is a very likable, relatable character. A single mom, she is smart, scrappy and not bad with a pistol. She has a clear and well defined concept of right and wrong but also understands that the ambiguities and intricacies of life sometimes mean right and wrong aren’t always 100% black and white. I also enjoy the colorful cast of characters who inhabit her small home town, Sage Landing, the descriptions of the magnificent desert landscapes and still-controversial Lake Powell, and the portrayal of Navajo culture which Manymules always keeps in her heart as her True North. Can’t wait for the Manymules mystery!

Amazon Customer: The plot kept me turning pages. The players were very believable and the scenery descriptions were rich and detailed. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next instalment.

LindaMercury: Bear Witness is the second book in this good-hearted series, and while this stands alone, I'd recommend reading book one in the series to really get a better sense of Naomi and her path. The character development is nicely done and the pacing is spot on. I didn't get the wonderful sense of place as in book one, but the characters were alive, interesting and entertaining. I liked it from start to finish and wait, impatiently, for another.

Fran B: Love these characters and love the story line, building nicely and cat wait to read the next book in the series
