Comments

Ramos: This book is as interesting and unusual an autobiography as it is an exceptional book about trees. The author’s literary skill and storytelling gift, combined with her deep knowledge make this book as satisfying as it is worthwhile. I can recommend it for both beginners as well as experts in the knowledge of trees.

Barbie: I love this book! I bought a physical copy and mailed it to my friend.
I loved Diana’s personal family history and all the fascinating information about trees. I love trees even more than before reading this book!

R Tam: great amount of information presented in a somewhat ADHD fashion- the message is important but the messenger’s style grates for me at least. The writing could have used some editing and the “ science” content also often seems under-edited and overstated.

Amazon Customer: I kinda liked this book as it has a very informal way of passing on information, not unlike having a chat with a very knowledgeable friend. The downside for me was that it was like having a chat with a very knowledgeable friend. This approach can feel pseudoscientific at times, even though it isn’t. Diana walks a very fine line in her way of writing and teaching, but it resonated with me and I think that I would rather like to learn a lot more about her work.

I fully intend to read a couple more of her books

Jacquie: I ordered this book for a book club. I personally find it the most fantastically informative and important book I have ever read. I would recommend it as THE book for everyone to read. It offers insight into the workings of this world that are beyond most of our comprehension.

Christina Schlegel: This is such a rich, mini autobiography recounting Diana's formative years and how they formed the foundation of her work in the natural sciences, rooted firmly in ancient traditions of Ireland. The last portion of the book covers the practical side of the Ogham, something lacking in many of the books that focus solely on the divinatory aspects of the system. This was greatly appreciated by this Druid ;)

KindleQueen: I just finished reading this book & will miss reading it. It's an unusual combination of being about the authors life growing up mainly in Ireland & eventually ending up in Canada, as well "speaking for the trees" and drawing on such a rich body of knowledge derived from ancient and modern-day science. She had quite a bereft stilted childhood that is reflected in how the first part of the book is written, but as we are a witness to her growing up years and adulthood, her writing becomes quite beautiful & the way she speaks for trees is extraordinary. Trees are not only magnificant unto themselves, they are essential to our lives - they release mist into the air that creates clouds so we have fresh water, they provide oxygen, medicine, food, etc.

I was suprised by how much I learned about trees I didn't already know given how long I've been fascinated by them. I'm also of Irish descent and found it engrossing for that reason as well. All in all, it's one of my favorite books.

Sharon McDonald: The information in this book, my love of all of Nature, the Author's name, she may be a relation, and this time in history,
are all factors in my purchasing and reading this book! I was not disappointed!
Knowledge of nature's healing, and the IMPORTANCE of FORESTS for all of life, was shared in this interesting, and informative book! The author is a scientist with a desire to share her accumulated knowledge about the need to wake up and recognize how we are negatively affecting our own world and how to start today to make positive changes.

Lori L. Fox: I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, To Speak for the Trees: My Life’s Journey from Ancient Celtic Wisdom to a Healing Vision of the Forest by Diana Beresford-Kroeger. After finishing it, I wasn’t disappointed, but I was saddened by the references to the Druid’s lost medicinal formulas and uses of trees. The Penal Years under British rule and their occupation of Ireland destroyed much of Druid culture and knowledge. However, the author, who was schooled as a young girl in the remaining knowledge of the Druid’s Brehon Laws in western Ireland, has combined what she was taught there with her study of trees as a 21st century botanist to create a compelling book of Celtic wisdom. The book includes discussions of forest bathing and a short but detailed chapter on each of the 20 trees of the Celtic Ogham alphabet. Anyone with an interest in Druids, Celts, and Ogham will find the book well-written and interesting. Furthermore, the author believes that if each person alive today were to plant a total of six trees over the course of six years, we could halt the progress of global warming long enough to find a solution to save our planet. She explains her reasoning, and I...
