SkyClan8: This book gives the young child an idea of what life was like in other places and other times. It broadens the child's understanding of the world and of people all over the world. It should be required reading for students grades 2-5

Sophie: I suspect I enjoyed reading this book more than my kids (who are a bit young for it), but I'm sure they will grow into it! Really well done - great art and as a bit of a history nerd I learned quite a few things. I loved the focus on the daily life of "regular" children.

G. D. Middleton: I bought this for my 5/6 year old and we are reading one life every night. It's a great book! Each life has a full-colour double-page spread on a girl or boy from a particular past culture. Costumes, objects landscapes and so on are explained with labels. The text is at a readable level, so she can read it to me, with just the right amount (block paragraph each on a topic in the chapter). It is really well produced, with just the right level of content - it's not dumbed down or superficial and it covers a good range of past peoples.really brings the past to life - well recommended!

Heather Hartshorn: This book is very well written and the pictures are amazing. Great for homeschool. My 9 and 10 year old learned so much from it. It is their go to book. I read some of the negative reviews and I will say if you have a child younger than 8 maybe not the book for you. Also prepare to talk about difficult subjects. Slavery, war , reformation of the church etc. may be hard discussions but they ARE apart of history and children should understand the hardships of the past that give them the privileges of today.

bpat: I had borrowed this book so many times from the library that it was getting unfair to other library-goers. So when I saw it underneath the Christmas tree, I was delighted. This is a wonderful journey through time as seen through the eyes of wonderful, relateable and exquisitley drawn children. The earliest is Taya from the Ice Age, and the latest is Susan from WWII, but there are pages on the Cold War, apartheid and everything after - including the future! There are also real-life children, including Anastasia, Anne Frank and Ruby Bridges. The book is in the room with me as I type and it is a large, beautiful quality book that you can treasure forever. There are even scenes of a street, say, or a home, behind several children, giving you a real feel of being there. I can't say enough good things about the illustrations by Steve Noon - beautiful. The children look so real and the scenes so vivid. There are also photos during the real life pages, and of items, like a photo of a Roman toy horse.
Overall, beautiful and so worth buying. It is so special to me.
