RRB: We were debating on redoing a wood deck to composite for a non profit. Cost was a factor and was holding us up on doing the project. We were happy to find these clips here as they cut our cost nearly in half from in store prices. Other amazing feature is the time they saved us as we didn’t have to manually gap the boards. Frank: These are the recommended fasteners for Trex grooved boards. They do make the deck look nice, and I am hoping I won't have screws popping and protruding like I did with my wood deck that I am replacing.
First, buy the Trex Universal Installation Tool https://www.amazon.com/TREX-ONESTEPTL-Hideaway-Universal-Installation/dp/B093QKNJKP
Second, buy extra bits. The tool above does come with a bit, but I have not found one with the case of fasteners. You might need more and these are not expensive. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZS6QF3X
Third, set your drill to 4 (torque) or you will either break the screw or run the screw through the fastener, both are not fun to deal with.

Fifth, get a rubber mallet to tap the boards fully onto these fasteners. If at all possible, have someone help you when installing. nineranch: We weren't using Trex decking ... so we were hesitant about purchasing these clips for our DYI 600 sq ft deck resurface. We used ALL the clips in this bucket and then some (purchased at big box store.) In other reviews, some had complained about breaking the screw head ... that happened to us about 3 or 4 times. We had purchased some extra stainless screws ... so we just scooted the clip ... got the broken head out ... repositioned and used the extra screw. Our previous treated wood deck had been secured with deck screws. This deck looks sooo much better with these hidden fasteners.

RB: Easy to use. When setting them, just use a regular drill and just set the screw flush with the spacer. Do not over tighten or the screw could just break or spin out in the hole. I also set the next board to it and tighten with a deck straightener tool to hold tight while screwing them down, while also standing on the boards too. This made sure I could see the screw when flush and also made the boards flush tight.
Something to remember, if you boards have any warp to them, Do Not rely on the screw fastener to pull it down completely, that's why I stand on them. I had a screw snap and spin out/strip the hole while trying this. This can also put stress on the groove and could tear apart.

Jessica D’Antonio: I just finished up a 500sq ft deck and these fasteners did an amazing job. I used the trex transcend collection and the whole thing looks great. I was nervous using these screws because of the bad reviews but it just boils down to user error. Things I have learned using these is you must use a drill and not a impact driver. The screws will strip but they work perfectly if you just use a regular drill and drill them slowly. You must drill in one clip halfway with one board on it, then put the other board in and screw the clip in snug but not all the way. If you screw it in all the way the screw will not be able to hold
Onto the joist because of the plastic clip. As long as you stick to these rules, your deck will turn out beautiful. Highly recommend these clips but use those rules and there will be no problems!
