walter stevenson: The book Trejo is the biography of Danny Trejo a now well known actor who acted in the film Heat with Robert Deniro and Al Pacino . His stardom came after a much darker life as a criminal and being incarcerated in American prisons and drug addiction. The book follows how he changed his life around helped others and then became an actor and a star. This is a very interesting story and well worth a read .

goodvibe: An amazing story of transformation from a man who has been as low as it gets, to rising to the top of the pile. Above all that, and what’s the most impressive part of his story, is the thousands of people whom Trejo helped as a councillor. A great read, highly inspirational.

The ReaDeR: This is a great book and very much deserves the 5/5 awarded it by myself.
But, and there is always a but. I have to say that normally I consider autobiographies as a fantasy ego trip for the star it is about. And this book has a lot to suggest the same here, and yet there is also a sense of the truth.
As a cross-over example, the Eric Burdon autobiography is excellent and interesting but very much egotistically based on the women he bedded. This book has much of the same feel but on every score.
Danny comes across as a force of nature and never backs down from the beginning to end. And there are a lot of changes as he ages. So in his youth, he was an unbeatable and feared fighter in and out of prison, with a trail of women behind him.
Later as he matures, this changes. He finds God and escapes drugs and drinking, but he is still a towering figure of fear and is only learning to deal with women as someone he can respect.
Then we move onto his film career, and he becomes an even greater legend.
To be honest, I loved the story and history and style of writing, but I had my niggling doubts about much of it. No one is that tough always, or...

Kayla: Raw. Real. Trejo is honest and shares more than I ever expected. He's experienced so much before he even turned 21. I could tell in the moments when Trejo laughed while writing this (or sharing with a partner writer). I could also feel his reflection and moments that he'd live differently if he could. He owned up to his past mistakes and doesn't make excuses for them. if you're on the fence about this read, go for it.
