sdkodachrome: Not only does it have great photographs, and descriptions of the places and often conditions where the photographs were taken, but the photographs are in many cases quite different from the photographs I've most often seen in other photography travel books covering the same national parks. So this book helps you think more about other ways of photographing the national parks.

Anonymous: For a few years I have been wanting to purchase a book devoted to our national parks, and I have browsed a number of good ones in various bookshops/gift shops. A few months ago I found a thoughtful review on the subject on Amazon. The review was for a book other than this one, and though that book was felt to be good, the reviewer considered Treasured Lands to be substantially better in content and overall value. Intrigued, I looked into the matter further and ultimately decided to order the book. I am glad I made that decision. This is definitely the best book on the subject I have encountered. The photographs are excellent, the information on the parks is useful, and the scope of the book is impressive. We recently enjoyed a trip to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon, in part inspired by this book. We look forward to using this book to inspire and inform future adventures in our wonderful national parks. I commend the author for all of the effort and love that went into this book in a process that spanned many years. The downloadable PDF/app is also a nice feature to allow us to access relevant content even while exploring the parks themselves. For owners of the physical book,...

D. Pugh: If you are a photographer and/or love the U.S. National Parks, you must buy this book. The author, QT Luong, has achieved the remarkable feat of photographing all of the U.S. National Parks with large format photography equipment, the heavy stuff that photographers like Ansel Adams used to drag around with them to capture high resolution photos that could be printed in large sizes prior to the days of digital photography. In recent years since digital photography could produce images comparable to large format, Luong has also added digital to his arsenal. But when a new national park is designated, Luong pulls out the large format equipment and travels to photograph the park with it. According to a video presentation he made about this book, about half the photographs in this book are large format and half are digital.
Luong didn't just make a quick trip to every park to take some photos so he could tick that park off the list on the way to doing them all. He researched to find the best places in the parks and visited many of them in multiple seasons. And he didn't just visit the parks. Prior to taking up photography in the early 90's, Luong was a mountaineer. He has hiked...

Mark D. Segal: I don't think another resource of this kind exists anywhere. If you want a most comprehensive, detailed overview of every national park in the USA, this is THE book to own. QT Luong has been on this project for years, many of these photos required enormous effort and dedication to achieve, and his experience shows. The photographs, design and layout are superb, the print job is very good and the descriptions/instruction most informative. Highly recommended. When you order, tell Amazon to pack it with adequate protection, because it's a big heavy volume that deserves protective packaging.

M_Sch: True to form, this first rate coffe-table book captivates the reader with class A photographs. What makes for a welcome change in this type of picture books is that "Treasured Lands" comes with eloquently written and detailed text of considerable quantity. For each image, photographer Luong shares highly useful information on location, lighting conditions, access, personal experiences and the like, which practically invites - and enables - the reader/viewer to go check out these places themselves.
What I do feel compelled to point out in terms of negative criticism, though, is the fact that the entire chapter "Eastern Hardwoods" (chaptrer V) has been printed a second time and thus comes up again three pages into chapter VI ("Alaska"), before the latter chapter comes in full size. What's more, in this mixup, the sub-chapter "Gates of the Artic" has been entirely lost except for the first page. This is a shame given that this is the second edition of "Treasured Lands". Did no one notice this major error in the first edition or did it happen only in the second edition? Anyway, this is the main reason, why I rate the book with 4 stars instead of 5. A second, minor one, is that...

Ian Alexander: Short version: As someone who loves the National Parks, and loves photography, I find this book stunning and inspiring. Easily the best National Park photography book that I've seen (and I've seen quite a few).
Long version: This is a 450-page book containing about 500 photographs selected from an individual photographer's work for two decades in all 59 U.S. National Parks. There are also brief notes about each Park, plus brief but useful details aimed specifically at photographers: some of the author's favorite photgraphy spots, details about where each photograph was taken and at what time of day, and a discussion of each Park's seasons from a photographic standpoint, among others. The author (QT Luong) is the first person to have photographed all 59 of America's National Parks using a large-format camera. He did so traveling mostly alone, self-funded, and with the same kind of access to the Parks as any regular visitor. The book is a declaration of love for the Parks (using images instead of big words), a photographic travel essay, and an inspiration for readers to go see these magnificent places for themselves (and bring their cameras).
Just to clarify, this is...
