José Menendez: Excelente para que sus mascotas no se suban a donde no quieres

Bonzaicut: We used this in conjunction with SSSCAT spray to keep our 2 young, rambunctious kitties away from our Christmas tree. Although we bought one of the largest sizes, these mats are quite small. In the end, our method was effective. They each tried once to access the tree and stayed away afterwards -- I was impressed because they are both very persistently curious.
My family members and I each touched the mat on its High, Med, and Low settings and equated the sensation from (low) receiving a shock from static electricity to (high) touching your tongue to a weak 9V battery.
Neither of my cats exhibited painful reactions when they stepped on the mat. They gave a slight flinch and stepped away from the mat -- neither one jumped, became vocal, or ran.
Pros:
-Cats learned quickly to avoid the area with the mat + spray.
-Didn't have to constantly monitor the area once the mat was turned on.
-Easy set up and use.
Cons:
-It covers a VERY small area for the price. We placed our tree in a corner with couches on either side so we only had to cover a small area. If we'd set it up as we usually do, we'd have had to spend hundreds on enough extentions to...

ElsaElsa: After our old cat figured out how to get into our bird cage we were desperate for a solution where we could keep our cat and our birds. This little invention works like a charm. Cats are smart, it only took one step on the mat for him to figure out the boundary.

Etch-a-sketch: My dog has decided that the corner of the carpet is now his official potty place. Despite bringing him outside, belly bands, carpet odor remover, and covering the carpet with plastic -- he still continued to pee on that corner. As a last ditch effort, I purchased this to deter him from even thinking about trying to go there. I removed all the plastic/ barriers and put down this curved scat mat around that corner of the carpet. It's been about 3 days since I set it up and no. accidents. yet.
I think he finally gets the immediate reinforcement when I'm not home! Phew! I was very worried that it could be dangerous on medium strength, my dog is only about 20 pounds. I tested it on myself and it feels more like a quick and sharp poke, rather than a painful shock. I'm very relieved that I found a safe solution!

update: 4 months later - no issues and no accidents! Half the time the mat is not even turned on (because I accidentally step on it too) - but it has conditioned my dog to stay away from his usual scene of the crime. Still waiting to see if it works on boyfriends too.

A Wife, Mom, Jedi: Works exactly as I need it to. Protect my Christmas tree from my cats, children, and pups. I have it on the highest setting and I've shocked myself several times so I know how it feels. Enough to deter an animal, but certainly not enough to hurt them.

Our tree is right next to a wall, and we needed three of these to cover the area we needed. I thought two would be enough when I purchased these. I do not have a large tree (only about 6 feet tall), and the tree skirt doesn't go further out than the reach of the bottom branches of my artificial tree.

If you put yours in a corner, I think you may be able to get away with buying two of these. However, like I said, up against a wall, we needed three.

IT WORKS and that is worth every penny, as last year, my cats had so much fun with the bottom branches, they ruined several of them.

Amazon Customer: We've had a cat for 6 Christmases and, every year, the cat has either climbed the tree, knocking off ornaments and lights, and/or destroyed the area under the tree with cat poo and vomited needles. I thought I had tried everything safe - citrus pomanders, relaxation pheromone, a perimeter alarm. Nothing worked. So this year, after several days of wet-vac-ing under the tree, I decided it was time to go a bit more medieval. These ScatMats get mixed reviews, but I took a chance and -voila! - a peaceful Christmas with an undisturbed tree. The tree is in a corner of the living room and the mat curved nicely just in front of the tree skirt. I know it worked because I turned it off once to water the tree and forgot to turn it back on. I returned to the room a short time later to find vomited needles. ScatMat was easy to set up, worked like a charm (as long as it was on), and rolled up easily in the shipping box for storage with ornaments. It may not work for every cat, but it worked very well with ours.

G.G.S.: Keeps the cats off the piano! Of all the cat training devices out there, I have found nothing works as well as ScatMats. It is especially important to be consistent. The cats just figure something is very wrong with the kitchen counters, or in this case, the piano, and choose to avoid. I have one cat that occasionally checks things out again to see if the counters are "still broken" ... but a little re-training nips that behavior in the bud.

Per the directions, I have tried the mats on my own hand. Laying the side of your hand across the mat will administer the static zap. It feels just like that - getting zapped by static discharge from walking across the carpet on a dry day.

A word on setup... make sure the surface this is on is non-conductive, clean, and without water. Also, nearby electrical devices may fool the unit into running continuously, draining the battery much faster. Otherwise, the unit normally is in "sleep" mode until it detects an object such as a hand or cat to zap.
