Frollard: I keep it on a shelf where the cats like to climb to reach the window, knocking over everything in their path. I can't use that shelf for anything with any metal in it or the brain box constantly triggers and would surely kill the battery in no time. The cats learned within an hour not to hop on that shelf and haven't returned in months. The reaction to being tickled by the shock was a 'startle launch' - don't keep anything valuable nearby as it runs the risk of being damaged by a launched cat. My only qualm is the trigger sensitivity detects almost anything I put on the mat (lots of metal in my stuff), so the shelf has to stay clear, or I have to risk shocking myself picking up the stuff I stored on there. I keep the unit on level 1 (of 3) and it's more than enough to be truly uncomfortable without being damaging. Outdoor cats or bigger dogs might need setting 2 or 3 from the thicker paw pads.

Paula Bedford: Worked great on my dog that likes to open the front door. She has scratched the wood so bad. But a couple of jolts & she leaves it alone. My other 2 dogs must of got zapped too as they have to be coaxed now to come in that door. Only one time that it didn’t seem to work. Dog stood on it and nothing happened. Very happy with it

skippy: Works great it only needs 1 or 2 bites from it and the cat no longer gets on the table or bench

HezzaNanz: Originally purchased for the counter but it didn't fit the shape. But we found another purpose...
Our young cat had gotten into the habit of scratching madly at our daughter's bedroom door at 3am and galloping happily away when I would get up to shoo her. This was repeated often and was causing a bit of rage.
The mat is put in front of the bedroom door every night and has stopped the scratch game and made every human more well rested and happy.
We also booby-trapped each other with it and it was hilarious.

Max Dinan: I have two adorable, but young and rambunctious, cats. As I had recently shifted to working from home, my cats would not respect the fact that a closed door was going to stay closed, no matter how much they pulled on it from underneath. And what's worse, even if I opened the door to my bedroom (their initial target) they would next start pulling on the closet door, and I absolutely didn't want them in there. Too many things they could shred or chew up if I wasn't paying close attention.

I tried shoving towels in the gap between the floor and the bottom of the door, I tried automated spray canisters, I tried a spiky mat that was designed for burying in flowerbeds to prevent strays and ferals. None of it was a strong enough deterrent, and I was woken up in the wee hours of the morning on several occasions. This finally did the trick.

I placed the mat in front of the door, turned it on to the medium setting, and my more inquisitive cat, Squeak, tested it out first. The first couple jolts made her jump a bit, but she didn't leave immediately. Finally, after 3 or 4 shocks in a row, she realized that standing on the mat was causing it and ran off. It took her sister, Pip,...

Nicola: This mat does exactly what it says it does.. but sadly my clever cat just avoids it and continues his bench hopping :(
Not the mats fault by any means.
PS don't test it yourself.. it's a trap! Take my word for it... it works... WELL #DumbIdea

Anne P. Mitchell: First, let me say right up front that I *hated* ordering this, and setting it up. I am generally very against anything that shocks an animal, especially if there is *any* other way.

However, our cat started relieving himself on our floor downstairs, and every effort to keep him from going down there, once he started, was to no avail. It is an open stairway, so there was no way to easily block it. Still, I tried - I put up gates, I up two strong box fans at the bottom of the stairs so that they were blowing up at the top of the stairs to deter him (*along* with the gates!) - nothing worked.

I had of course already done all of the other standard things - making sure there was nothing medically wrong, making sure his box was clean - even putting *another litter box* down where he was soiling the floor, and he still went on the floor - right next to the box!

A few weeks ago my daughter - who is an animal rescue and health care professional - was visiting, and she said "Have you tried a ScatMat?" "No!," I exclaimed, in horror at the thought. However, she convinced me that it was not the equivalent of kitty torture, especially if used on the lowest setting, and that...
