Mike Whitmer: I purchased these to see if disposables are anywhere like regular pens. I do a lot of writing and like to do use different types of ink and paper. My initial test of these pens was done in a general notebook/journal. The nibs are a medium and give a strong stroke with the ink. My concern is the stiffness of the nib. Sometimes the nib has a tendency to ‘dig in’ to the paper and leave a mark. I’ve not had that happen before and it worries me. I have only used three of the pens, so I will adjust this review if things get better.

Additional Comment (problem):
I have now been using the pens for some time. They are OK, but the caps have started to NOT click tight when replaced. That means the ink will dry up and make for ‘hard’ starts each time it is used. NOT GOOD!! I would be careful with this purchase.mw

Paul Craig: I am a pen junkie. I just love pens. I have started using fountain pens this year. I began with the Pilot Varsity assorted color set, medium tip. They wrote well, but there were two issues: 1. The ink was running. 2. There was not much ink - most of the pens were less than half full and one had almost no ink when I opened the package. So I ordered these pens with a fine tip. They have more colors than the other set (12 vs. 7). The fine tips are nice and the ink does not run. I noticed one drawback - sometimes the pens (especially the dark green one) do not write each time you uncap them - they have to be primed a bit.

One more issue - the caps on the pen tend to crack with repeated use and a few of them no longer seal properly. I'm going to try tightening them with electrician's tape. I think that will work.

One of the ratings is for giftable. Here's a simple answer. I let my wife try them yesterday afternoon and she loved them - smooth writing and no running. I ordered her a set as a Valentine's Day gift last night.

Kreative KKreative K: I bought these to help my daughter to improve her handwriting. She has a habit of rushing through her schoolwork and the result is illegible writing. Since you often have to write slower with a fountain pen, I thought I would give these a try. I bought these, because you can't beat the price ($12) for all these pens. I love that you get so many colors, which makes these all the more fun for my daughter. I tried them myself and and happy to report that all but two write very smoothly. The other two write well, but the ink flow is a little bit more limited than the rest of them. I am a long time user of and collector of fountain pens myself and highly recommend these to someone who wants to introduce their children to the art of writing with fountain pens or wants an inexpensive starter set.
