CatherineCatherine: This book is good. Bought it as a reference in my professional practice. Pages are the same texture as coloring book, not great quality and all in black and white. I added red for better visuals. Alot of redundancy in the text so far. I skipped through a couple of paragraphs as alot of it I already knew. The pictures make it really easy and quick to target which muscle causes the irradiating pain depending on location. I had pain on the top right side of the head and found out it was caused by the SCM muscle. I applied trigger point massage and WOW it reproduced the symptoms and now pain is gone!

Yorkshire Lass: If you have the patience to learn about where your pain emanates from in your muscles then this is a really good book

I have one for headaches and for frozen shoulder as well and they are brilliant and I found them really helpful

Only recently I had a problem with my upper thigh and some pain down my leg and I worked out where the problem was using the book, massaged the trigger point out and now... no pain!

It does take patience, you don't rub a trigger point once and it goes away forever, necessarily.

If you read the other information in the book, I think you will learn a lot of really valuable information about how your body works.

It has saved me a fortune by not having to go to Osteopath to find out what is wrong..

But do take care, and see a medical professional first if you are not confident about self care...

You don't become a physical therepist overnight just because you read the book :)

Carolina: There are some therapies that lend themselves really well to self help books. Unfortunately, I don't think trigger point therapy is one of them. Absolutely, there is very valuable information in here, but it is so hard to apply without expert guidance.

The more I learned and tried to apply, the more questions arose for me. I just didn't have the skill base to apply these techniques successfully, and I couldn't find an FAQ on the authors website. I felt confused and defeated.

Ultimately, I did the best I could following the programme over about six weeks, but ended up making my pain much worse.

This was due to 2 reasons: 1) misguidedly thinking my scalenes were the source of my shoulder pain, and 2) using a rolling/ rubbing massage technique, as recommended in the book, instead of static pressure, which I have found causes much less agitation of my muscles and gives more relief.

The most useful part of the book is the diagrams that show referred pain sites. That being said, there is a lot of focus on the scalenes which led me to misdiagnose myself. It turned out my shoulder pain was caused by trigger points in… my shoulders.

I’m not denying...

Nassim Sabba: This is a gold mine. I have been using this manual since 2009. Trigger points came to my attention when I developed a tennis elbow I couldn't get rid of for nearly two years of various therapies and treatments. I learned about TPs from the coach of the British Olympic sprint team. My search lead me through multiple websites and eventually I got rid of the point in a minute. It was so amazing that I though it was some sort of placebo effect.

Then I attended to a rotator cuff problem I had developed when a ski boarder pulled my arm when she couldn't control herself at very high speed. That was also gone in less than an hour. Multiple points had to be resolved and when I was done I was dancing on the ceiling. But, again I felt it was a fluke and didn't dare trying other TPs as I was afraid of losing my new religions if it stopped working. Needless to say, it never did.

Last year I discussed my years of experience with a neuroscientist who does cutting edge research at University of London. I told him that in my view TPs don't get resolved because evolution has not provided us with the mechanism. They are recorded in our minds and the mind has no way of knowing where the...

Also, WIRKLICH loszuwerden!

A Customer: This book is great for anyone with chronic muscle pain or tightness. I have been able to release a lot of trigger points that frequently give me neck and upper back pain. The book contains many drawings and is well written for the average layperson. It contains so much information that I tend to read it in sections based on my need. The book breaks up different areas of the body and has drawings of pain patterns and then shows the trigger points causing that pain so you don't have to start out knowing the names of the muscles; you just choose the picture that matches your pain patterns and then flip to the corresponding page. It also goes into detail describing the functions of the muscles and possible causes of trigger points, but you can still use this book without reading all of it. This book taught me that the cause of the pain isn't always in the area you are feeling it. If you are interested in self-treatment, I highly recommend this book. I think every physical and massage therapist should have this in their library.

Update: I had a day at work a few months ago when I was stretching my arms over head and bending sideways a bit (a typical morning yawn-and-stretch...

HDTX: I was ALWAYS a very fit woman even in my 40's. Nothing extreme, just always moving & energetic, great diet, etc. Until I turned 41 - my back started giving me trouble. Fast forward to me going to PT to get my back in better shape in Fall 2012. Then late Dec 2012 - PT is great until one rushed day when she stretched my right leg too far too fast. Didn't feel like anything until 2 hrs later, OMG, the pain in the sole of my right foot & low back! I couldn't walk without a limp. I had never had foot pain before, ever. I couldn't sit on anything soft because of the pain it would cause my low back.

It got worse. I had an MRI (slight disc bulge, but nothing that would cause such pain). I tried everything over the next few months - acupuncture, chiropractor, spine drs, orthopedist, physiatrist, neurologist, steroid shot, supplements, stretching, walking through the pain, ice, heat, epsom salt baths 3+ times a day, etc etc. My life became a nightmare of pain - unable to ambulate properly, I had to crawl around my house. I could barely drive. I was given a temp handicap parking placard and told to get a cane. I used to run, bike 40 miles a week, garden, now I was reduced to a...
