Amazon Customer: Great book.I have read Isaiah before, I must have missed the scripture about eunuchs and flew right by, not quite understanding. I love the way you make me think about what a particular phrase until I have to dig deeper into the Bible.

Louie Laing: I have read all of Tessa Afshar’s books. My two complaints are 1. I hate putting it down once I start reading. And 2. I hate when the end of the book comes. Actually I have a third complaint. 3. I need a new Tessa Afshar book and their isn’t one.
Every book is brilliantly written. Each character is unique and unforgettable. The plot is well developed. If you read one book, you will want to read all her books.
Although her book themes are biblical, they are more historical and so well written that everyone should enjoy them.
Thank you Tessa Afshar

Hannah Hambrock: Synopsis: Chariline is raised an orphan by the Apostle Philip, while her distant and disgruntled grandfather is a political figure for Rome. She’s always wondered about her parents, only knowing that her mother tried to run away with a Cushite. Now, years later, she may have found a clue to her father is and decides to set out on a journey to find him. In the process, she finds a love story of her own.

My thoughts: Beautifully romantic, but not overly gushy. Many sweet moments throughout the story. Easy to read and enjoy. Fully of world-traveling adventure, and even some swashbuckling! ⚔️Though I didn’t struggle to read this, it’s not a favorite. It’s “very” loosely based on the account of Philip witnessing to the Ethiopian in Acts 8. As a result, this story is more Historical Fiction than Biblical Fiction. For myself personally, that matters. 📚🌊⛵️⚔️

Stephanie McCall: More a 3.6-3.8, Jewel of the Nile didn't keep my attention as much as some of Tessa Afshar's other books have. Nevertheless, it contains a lot of her trademark strong points, plus a few elements I didn't expect. Some elements are stronger than others, but I enjoyed most of the book, particularly the elements that did keep my interest.
The strongest part of Jewel of the Nile is the jewel herself, Chariline of Cush (pronounced Cara-Leen-ee, as I found out after calling her Char-ah-lean for most of the book; my mistake). Chariline perfectly mixes the desire to obey and honor God with impulsivity and recklessness, compassion with human self-absorption, and love for others with the admission that she's grown up getting her own way. In other words, Chariline is perfectly human and relatable.
Chariline's quest is also relatable and a strong point of the book. Her desire for not only a father, but love and acceptance, blends well with both her strengths and flaws. The way she handles certain situations on her journey reminds readers that struggles like fatherlessness or lack of love are universal and not confined to any time period. Couple this with Chariline's mixed race...
