Josephine Cascino: What an amazing story…some 25% of Jamaicans have Irish heritage! How that that happen?? This is a story of Jamacia, Ireland, greed, love, death, family, and hope. Worth a re-read for sure.

Jackie Jenkins: Great book expressing emotions one can only imagine! Insightful because of how it impacted each generation that followed. Slavery is evil no matter how the story is told.

unakasoaplady: Lot of hype for the trilogy. Historically interesting subject.

SueH57: The rating is really depending on what the reader is looking for. It is a detailed saga with multiple characters with lives entwined. The historical premise is based on Irish “immigrants “ to Jamaica and how they became integrated in Jamaican life. Immigrants- aka- forced migration by the English. Many were one step away from being enslaved- if that was possible. The novel follows 2 families- one English who abused power in Ireland and ruled with privileged white authority in Jamaica. The other - Irish- who suffered from the abuse and forced immigration- following the life of a child of about 11/12- and his ensuing life in Jamaica; struggle with hatred and desire for revenge, but also his love of his family.

Interesting how the slave trade cycles from Jamaica to Cuba, to Morocco. So much of our thoughts on slave trade centers on whites only- but this demonstrated a broader expanse of the evils of slave trade. Little time was spent on Morocco slavery, but one character was mentioned being sold to mining slavery- so that by the time he was 22, his mind and body was spent.

The author brings the story back to Ireland with unexpected twists in the lives of the two...

Kandy F. Chik: This book took me on a journey to a place where my ancestors - the Irish - were killed and/or placed into servitude and treated barely better than animals by the British. Young people today seem to think “they” discovered racism. The truth is, it has been around since the beginning of time. It rears it’s ugly head any time one person sets themselves above another - regardless of their skin color.

Amazon Customer: I enjoyed this book because of the depth of the characters and the information about Irish slaves in Jamaica. Phenomenal!

Rita regan: This story is an excellent read. So many people do not know that this happened to the Irish people. My heritage is Irish and I’m glad my family did not experience this (that we know of)

SueCaldwellReed: I am of Irish descent and as l have grown l learn more and more about this abused people. My ancestors left Ireland because of the Great Potato Famine in order to survive. I read this book feeling sorrow, for children who perished in the voyage, in faraway fields and lonely huts all because they were Irish..

Sharon S.: I bought the book because I was interested in knowing some of the history of the Irish slaves not knowing that that ever happened and beginning to find on many people were captured into slavery over the centuries. I enjoyed the book A Lot except when I got to Part 2 it took me a little bit of figuring out who is who I thought it could have been a tad clear but that could be just me. But really enjoyed learning I guess is the word the truth about different things that happened to couple hundred years ago and of course knowing that much of this happened still today.
