Azzie2006: This book wasn't exaxtly what I expected. It does provide healthier ways to make the foods my grandma use to make, but the carb counts for a lot of the recipes were still higher than what my doctor wanted for me. An once in a while cookbook for me .

R.H. Hooper: I just thought there'd be more relatable recipes for the individual diabetic.

L. A. Ellett Iolite: There are some tasty recipes here - love the ‘Dirty Forbidden Rice’ in particular which is a delicious spicy beef and black rice dish. Some of the ingredients used in the book I’ve been advised against in controlling diabetes, but to be fair are used in moderation in recipes. Good for weekday dinners.

Amazon Customer: Constantly on a quest to cook something (I love to cook) and cook healthier, I love trying new recipes or getting ideas from others' recipes to enhance my own. Well, I'm not a diabetic, but I bought this book originally for my mother-in-law who is. I read thru the book and its recipes to ensure the it would be beneficial to her before I passed it on. I was very intrigued by the recipes. That intrigue led me to purchasing a book of my own run out to the store to get some of the ingredients for a few recipes to cook this weekend. Hope this review helps.
Happy Cooking!!

Harlem317: The Southern Comfort Food Diabetes Cookbook states that the Southern Region of the US and people with roots in the south make up a large percentage of people with diabetes. As a descendent of the Gullah/Geechee people of South Carolina and Lowland people of North Carolina, reading information about the cultural traditions of using fresh ingredients like Collard & Mustard Greens, Okra, Rice & Beans, Seafood, and "Not- Old Bay" Seasoning infused throughout the book was a wonderful bonus. Just browsing through the recipes that reminded me of my Grandmother's cooking: Shrimp & Grits, Zucchini Bread, Candied Yams, Biscuits, Smothered Chicken, Pulled Pork, and Banana Pudding gave me comfort. As a Nurse Practitioner, I am so happy to be able to share this cookbook with patients who struggle with feeling that they have to give up eating foods that have historical and cultural significance once they are diagnosed with Diabetes. Thank you, Maya, for providing this fantastic resource!

Malina Linkas Malkani: Each recipe is more delicious than the next in this thoughtful and deliberate cookbook. No one in my family has diabetes, but several of the recipes have quickly become regulars in my meal rotation (the Four Bean Field Stew is AMAZING) because my kids love the flavors and textures and I love how nutrient-dense and easy they are to follow. Were one of us to be diagnosed with diabetes, I would find this cookbook a great comfort. So many people assume that having diabetes no longer means enjoying food. Feller's cookbook makes it clear that this is most certainly not the case.

M: Some very nice recipes which cater to large groups of people. Not ideal for diabetics as some of the recipes are very high in carbohydrates and sugars
