Comments

Greg: I was skeptical at first about Sinead’s life story but was impressed, especially considering the physical and emotional abuse that she endured from her mother. Still, her life was very rich and even funny. Detailed and accurate. One of a kind in standing true to her principles.

Grandma Runninghorse: I was so excited to read Sinéad O'Connor's book "Rememberings: Scenes from My Complicated Life" seeing as she passed away recently.

The book did not disappoint. It is a very poignant read about a woman who lived a very difficult, complicated, disturbed even, life. She was a singer, guitarist, somewhat of a pianist, and a songwriter. She was also a Mother to four, now grown, children. That is a fact I was not aware of.

This book is fairly lengthy, and some passages were difficult to read due to my own trauma. So reader, beware, not an easy read for some. It does shed light on Sinéad's difficulties due to being outspoken about what she believed in, and her mental illness issues.

Like her, or hate her, it's all here in this book. If you are a fan, buy it!

Celine Elaine: I first heard her audio on you tube then got her book here. I'm glad I did. She writes like you're her best buddy she's talking to. She's lucky to have been as alright as she was if all she says about her abuse was true. I believe her. While a rebel, she'd reason to be. Her young rage on stage and tearing up the popes pic on SNL was career suicide I thought at the time, and I saw her live doing that thinking. Well hell, that's crazy. I came to understand why. My grands were irish immigrants. There was a LOT of shame, fear and ignorance coming from that kind of history. I relate. Everything's a big MORTAL SIN and that aunt no fun. I get her. I had her earliest music and loved it. I just had to know where she was coming from. I don't really understand her need for being a priest as she claimed then the whole Muslim thing but I'm not at all gonna criticize her.
She's also very funny. She's got wit and she's intelligent. It's a fun read.
She just wanted to be loved properly and hold her own I think. Dunno why she went from man to man to get that though. Maybe she was hell to live with. I hope her family makes peace with her death and there's REALLY a heaven for herself and...

katz321: I chose 4 because, I thoroughly like this book. I read it, not long after her passing. For some reason, her passing upset me more than I felt it should. So I read her words to quell those feelings. I hope she is at peace now.

Yellowbird: The way this was written, I feel as if I have a new friend. And isn't that how a book like this is supposed to make you feel? I think so. As we all know by now, more than a month after her death, Sinéad had a rough life. She was not treated fairly, we thought it was okay to use her as a punching bag and to belittle her. But in truth, she was a genius. Her music told a story and if you listen to even one of her very well written songs, you will get to know her and you will love her. As I read this book, I kept her in my thoughts throughout my days, her voice spoke to me and let me see inside of a life and the thinking's of someone who had a lot to say. She might not have said the most popular things in the most popular ways but she is the type of woman who when she spoke, we all should have listened better. I think this book was well written, and delivered. She had a way of explaining what she was thinking and feeling, she showed a vulnerable side that since you're reading her thoughts and feelings was very intimate. This book was funny, it was sad but most importantly and true to her style, it was honest. I loved reading about her history and the awkwardness of being an young...

Amazon Customer: I would recommend this incredibly readable book to anyone born in the mid sixties or early seventies who lived through the same amazing times as Sinead as there’s just so much to relate to.

Isabella: Riveting. Read this shortly after S.O'C.'s death to learn more about her - and I wasn't disappointed. Fast paced and gripping, if at times confusing as in the first part (which narrates her childhood and youth) when she often shifts between present and past as if she were telling the story as a live performance or as a diary in real time, often shifting backwards and forwards between past and present and different years - but in a way that adds to the intensity of the narration.

I expected some of the material to be shocking given the revelations of her public persona, but what was less expected was her razor sharp humour even when narrating disturbing events such as her unfortunate encounter with Prince, which is an absolute gem of comic timing in writing.

The book is a real revelation for those who like myself knew little about the singer beyond her performance of Nothing Compares to U and occasional news snippets, and reveals a passionate and talented artist with strong convictions and a wicked sense of humour, and makes one sorry that her journey was cut short so prematurely. I would have loved to read her sequel to this in later years.

The only reason I...

Robert ‘Bob’ Macespera: Another installment for the rock stars biography section, a recent, healthy and fun-to-follow trend, with multiple participants. Only last year, 2022, we had Bono with a not-completely satisfactory opus, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker with very personal releases and, the best of all, the off-mainstream autobiography of the country star Margo Price (really good).
Sinnead O'Connor finished her memoirs "Remberings" during the 2020/21 pandemic and, since announced, this is a book many, you reviewer included, was very curious about. For, even if this reviewer has never been a diehard for Ms O'Connor, one cannot help but admit that, even in a career full of ups-and-downs and controversies, she has at least two CDs that could be in the best 250 of the last 40 years ("I do not want what I haven't got" and "How about I be me (and you be you)". And then came the book. Is it good? Would Sinnead settle the score? Not completely - to both of the above.
"Rememberings" is well written but it's too episodic. It tells snippets of the author's life, but in a disconnected way. There's no "life", but loose chapters: one deals with moving to LA, the next one is about a brother she has and the next one...
