2B: I found this book on Prime Reading, thankfully. I would have been disappointed to have paid for it. The premise was interesting, but the actual execution was disappointing. Buds wife, Millie, couldn't speak one word without saying "and this and that." I will not be reading any subsequent books by this author.

Ashley Hedden: Secrets of the Greek Revival (Mystery House #1) was a great read by Eva Pohler. Ellen and her two best friends decide they want to renovate an 1860s Greek Revival in San Antonio. Ellen doesnt believe in ghosts but is faced with that in the attic. Her friends convince her that they have to help the spirit find closure. They uncover a shocking history that someone in their neighborhood doesnt want them to expose. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Annissa: Wow! I figured I would enjoy these books, and I bought the whole set. However, this went beyond my expectations. The way the plot wrapped around was amazing, and the ending was more than I could have hoped.

Melissa: I purchased this book because it popped up as an ad/promotion by the author. I do not normally like mystery books but I needed something new to read.
While yes, it was a mystery, the story was based upon 3 women in their 50's, children grown, dealing with elderly parents and trying to stay relevant, not invisible. To bring excitement into their lives, they purchased an old house to possibly flip it or turn it into a B&B. They ran into several problems, met some really nice people and some not so nice along their journey. While there was a sense of mystery, it wasn't a scary murder mystery story like I was expecting. Yay for me because I am not fond of murder mysteries that much.
The book was light reading, so you can pick it up and have to concentrate too hard trying to follow the story. That was great for me because my usual reading time is 5AM before work.
I enjoyed the book so much I bought the next 5 in the series.

The historical bit of the book I really enjoyed. Had a feel of the first season of American Horrosr Story for me but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. What let things down for me was the three main characters - Ellen, Sue and Tanya - at various times they behave in ways that I find abhorrent. They each complain of feeling invisible in some way and then each of them proceeds to treat other people in the way they feel treated; this isparticularly annoying with their close personal relationships.
Put that aside and this is a pretty good cosy mystery with a touch of the gothic. The slow unravelling of the history of the house and it's prior occupants does keep you interested and makes you want to keep reading. Some of the set pieces with the neighbours and the spookier happenings in the house can verge on the trite but it is still an enjoyable read. Nothing really new but it does entertain.
This review has been a long time coming. I actually read this book between the 21st and 23rd June 2020 so my memory is a bit foggy about all the plot lines. Fortunately, I have a notebook where I jot some initial thoughts on the book and an overall ranking so...

Amazon Customer: I liked the main characters and thought that the overall story was a breeze to read. There were a couple aspects of the story that I had a hard time believing though (warning spoiler alert!)- The “ghost girl” being a real person: how people couldn’t tell the difference between a ghost and a human being seems far fetched; also, how she went from seeming like a mental patient that could barely communicate, to a civilized woman with a boyfriend is a bit of a stretch. The ending seemed a bit rushed as well (although I liked that it was a happy one). Do we find out in the other books how Ellen and her platonic relationship with her husband pans out? Guess I’ll have to read them to know the answer. I do however look forward to more adventures will Ellen, Sue, and Tanya!

Avid Reader: This book reminded me of those themed easy-reading mysteries that generally involve bakeries or other small businesses struggling to establish themselves in a new town, or hold their own in an old one. There's a bit of a poser, a lot of odd goings-on, some sneaking around and assorted suspicious activity, and in the end everyone lives happily ever after. Please don't take this as a put-down. There's a definite market for that kind of book and this one is well-done within the genre. I'm sure at some future point I'll be reading another of the Mystery House #x - AnyTown, USA because sometimes a simple little mystery is exactly what we're looking for.
