Lisa McH: This book provides insight into the myriad of emotions that bubble up once a daughter-in-law or mother-in-law comes on the scene. It’s an excellent read. I highly recommend this for any daughter/mother-in-law trying to figure out why they’re getting a negative reaction to something said or done. 😊

Member of a Book Club: This book was helpful to me. In the end the problems with my DIL were less related to me and more related to her and my son, but it did illustrate to me some patterns of behavior that I could improve. I never thought that giving her a subscription (I got a great buy on multiples) to Martha Stewart Living would be something she resented, but I guess it was.
I think it's better to buy the paper book than the Kindle as the test is harder to score via electronics and I find myself wanting to reference parts of it and that would be easier if I had post-it notes in the book.
Still, if you're having issues with you in-laws this is a good read. It probably would also be a good gift for a new MIL, just to head off trouble.
In the end I think my son and his wife are going to split up, but I feel like I'm prepared for the other son, and if this son finds someone new I'll start off with better patterns.

Emma Eyre: I just ordered this book and started reading it the moment it arrived through our door this afternoon and I am already hooked. I relate to it so much. It is clear and concise. It is also light and easy to read. The book is divided into easy to follow sections that identify what types of a mothers and daughters in law there are and how to deal with each type of personality combination. I found it extremely helpful as it clearly outlines the relationship the daughter in law has or had with her own mother, even if this was non-existent, as this has a ripples effect on how the daughter in law deals with other relationships in her life as she grows up, including the ,other in law. This is an excellent book and the author clearly understands what she is talking about. She even wrote about her own experiences in the book.

Toni C: The book has a lot of good "hands-on" information and no psycho-babble. Easy to apply and use when you still have a relationship with your in law. Unfortunately my DIL has cut off communication and my grandson from me so it will be hard to follow Dr. Brann's advice. Perhaps I could have used this earlier in our relationship. :(

Dianne Durand: This is the best book for any Mother-in- law or Daughter-in-law who truly wants to improve the relationship within their family unit. This is not easy stuff but things do not need to always follow the same painful path. I highly recommend Dr. Deanna Brann's book Reluctantly Related. After the first page I knew she had walked in my shoes. She was not talking about the issues from some theoretical point of view, but her own personal experience. She brings a wealth of knowledge, years of experiences about the complexities of family relationships. Her illustrates are real and many are her own experiences. Her writing style is easy to read and more importantly, easy to understand. She uses real life examples to make her points. This is not easy, but with her exercises you are guided through your own emotions and reactions. With this knowledge, you can begin to sort through your own issues. Deb W: It is amazing how similar this story is to my situation. It feels good to know there are others going through the same thing and have gotten through it. I'm only half way through and can't wait to read the rest. Hilarious drawings convey the exact feeling I get when reading about the characters. This really makes me think about what role I play with my DIL, my MIL and what parts of all that I get from my own mother. Insightful and honestly sincere book. Highly suggest if you are having anything other than a blissful life with your relatives.

Amia: I skimmed this book looking for some insight on my troubled relationship with my daughter in law. I found it to be written from a strange perspective and not helpful to me. I find much better suggestions reading articles online. Not sure why I ordered a book but I am desperate. I apologize to the author but I was not impressed nor enlightened.
