StropheusStropheus: Great camping grill if used properly.
First, I would not cook directly on it right away. As other reviewers have mentioned it is painted black and it will peel off. I purchased two 16x9 Griddles (See below) which perfectly covered half the grill. The griddles are reversible. I was able to boil water and make coffee on one half of the grill, while at the same time cooking anything from bacon & eggs to burger & dogs on the other side. I have never had a better camping/cooking experience. (Personally don't like gas when camping, fire only...)
If you are looking for a large, heavy duty grill this is it, just use it properly. I will update this post after a few more uses and see if I am comfortable cooking directly on it over time. Plus I want to upload a picture so you can all see how sweet this set up is with the griddles!!
Used it again this weekend. Couldn't be happier. Check out the photo!!

G. Peterson: This camp grill provides a stable working platform for cookware over an open fire. It consists of two main components - a heavy metal grid, and a metal frame with legs that fold back beneath when the grill is not in use. The grid is welded to the frame with spot welds, and the entire product is then painted with flat black grill paint. It is not designed to be cooked directly upon - but to serve as a base for cookware, food products wrapped in foil, etc. It is quite heavy-weight, and would seem to be heavy enough to hold any normal combination of cookware. The legs seemed a little short - holding the grid less the 12" above the ground - so this grill would be best suited for cooking over a fire in a pit at or below ground level.
The problem with this product is with the spot welds that hold the grid to the metal frame. The grid is welded to the underside of the frame so the welds bear all the weight of the grid as well as any cookware placed on the grid. I ordered one of these grills from Amazon and upon arrival inspection found that 3 of the welds had broken before I had even removed the grill from the box. The grid was noticeably sagging away from the frame when I set the...

Cricket: I almost pulled the trigger on another camp grill here on Amazon, but then I ran across this one and I'm very glad I did. Obviously the reviews were important in making the decision because we wanted something that we wouldn't be disappointed in. Now that I have it I can say that this grill is perfect for camping! We actually have a RV, but like to cook outside as much as possible. Before having this grill we would buy charcoal and travel with a small BBQ. It was a hassle having to both start a campfire and grill, now we only do one. The property we stay at most of the time we have built a 3 foot wide fire pit that is surrounded by landscaping stones. The legs of this grill sit perfectly on the stones and give us about 12-18 inches above our fire. So far we've heated up our coffee percolator, cooked breakfast in a cast iron pan and grilled burgers and hot dogs directly on the grill. The best part? It cleans up easy by just letting any food burn off over the fire and then it stores flat! This is a heavy duty grill and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for one. I expect it will last many years!

djn: I was looking for a real heavy duty cooking grate to be used in a campfire. I do not need to carry this into a camp or hike with it so I prioritized strength and durability over weight. This choice is not it. Disappointed.
I suspect that this will work okay, but it is not the durable camp grill I wanted. This will have me looking to replace it in a few years. I like to buy once and be done, so this time is a fail.
What is with the black paint? Why paint it at all? It will quickly burn off. In fact I hope it quickly burns off so I can put food on it. Then it will rust. Some say not to put food on it, but that is what people want. Sausage, burgers, dogs, etc. Right?
The welds are on the cheap end. The grate is only tacked in a few places. This is a relatively light piece given that it is promoted as heavy duty.
This will work okay for a few years. It might be perfect for you. For me, I wanted heavier.
I am still in the search for a heavy duty model. Perhaps something made from stainless where rust will not be a factor.
