ClickIt: I have three older vehicles that I maintain so whatever I can do to minimize my upkeep time is appreciated. Coolant quality is important but it is hard to tell its state without these test strips. I have a bulb antifreeze indicator, but the real issue is always the pH of what is in the vehicle. pH bad means it has to go NOW. With these strips it is a 5 minute test and you know what to do. Same with your brake fluid. You get fourteen strips nicely wrapped for freshness when you need them. I wavered on spending this amount on a little package, but now I highly recommend. It's a quality product and will save you a lot of time from routine flush and fills that are not yet necessary.

Terry Fugate: To test the coolant in a car we'd just bought. We were assured the coolant had been changed but weren't sure.
The strip showed perfect PH balance which was confirmed by a local fleet chem lab.
I can avoid changing the coolant.
The break fluid is still good but will need changing in the next 12~18 months at 10PPM water.

durability-tester-37durability-tester-37: My 98 Isuzu coolant (green) had not been changed for over 6 or 7 years so I was a bit worried as was rated at only 5 years for life expectancy. The Phoenix test strip showed pH at approximately 7.2 (still good range) - this was estimated by eye using the handy Phoenix score card (see photo).

My brake fluid test showed it to be in good condition (10 ppm copper corrosion), which made sense as I changed it perhs 2 years ago. However, some people say there is not much copper in modern braking systems so the brake test is not that meaningful.

Not shown is a test strip I used on the brand new pre-mixed Prestone "Asian Vehicle" (10-year life) coolant which showed a pH of 7.5. I think that makes sense from what I read on some automotive sites.

I don't know if these test strips works well with more modern organic acid coolant chemistry. I did not research that angle.

High Plains Drifter: Likely the most ignored item on the car, coolant can over time go "bad" and cause corrosion problems inside the engine and cooling system. But there is no way to know for sure. And today there are as many types of coolant as flavors of ice cream, each claiming a different lifespan. And who wants to spend money on a maintenance item when you do not know for sure you have to? Saw this new product on a net video, it instantly tests coolant and brake fluid. Brake fluid does not go bad (from water contamination) often but coolant is always a mystery. We have two older cars, both purchased used, no real service records. On one, the coolant was OK for at least another year. On the other, it had gone seriously bad. Flushed and changed. Super neat product.
