R. Sipe: Don’t waste your money on the other ones… they don’t work. They slip and the cutter is not sharp. I basically wasted $20 trying to get by on the cheep. This is the one you want. Note the things that set this one apart. 1 the groove milled in the shaft for the set screw to lock into. The head won’t slip or rotate. 2 the cutter is sharp and leaves a well defined mark. 3 the micro adjustment makes finite setting easier and the 2 locking screws means positive settings that won’t slip.

Plumbs: Great quality product but did not supply any spare blades. Photo Is very misleading and no help whatsoever from Workshop Heaven offering £4 off and CBA attitude on spare blades even though I offered to pay again for them 👎

B. Barcellos: There's a lot to like about this marking gauge, but I don't think it will be the only one I buy.
It moves fluidly. It is heavy and solid. The micro adjust is excellent. The materials are quality and it is finely crafted.
It isn't perfect. The blade isn't as sharp as I want it to be and I'm not aware of any way to sharpen it. With a new blade, I have to go over a line repeatedly to get a line I'm happy with. Sometimes I'll be deepening my line with a second or third stroke and I'll miss the line, creating an errant mark. Actually this happens a lot.
This is related to another problem, which is that I don't think the reference surface is large enough. Heck, I wish it was twice as big as it is, if not bigger. I have a really hard time actually keeping it flat on my reference surface. It slips and slides and tilts. I'll probably get better with time, but I've heard of this as a general criticism with this type of gauge.
I think this also might be due to the wheel design. It just feels "slippery", in contract to my scratch awl which always follows my reference edge perfectly without sliding around. I may try a straight blade or pin design for my next gauge,...

DYWW: When you get into using hand tools for woodworking the saying "you get what you pay for" definitely applies. The only marking gauge that I've ever seen that operates like this one is the Tite Mark from Glen Drake Toolworks which sells for around $100. Considering the "you get what you pay for" lessons that I've learned, it made me a bit hesitant to buy this tool especially since there were no reviews at the time. Stop reading the review right now and buy this tool if you're looking for a wheel marking gauge! This is the best woodworking tool deal on the internet!
I see you've continued reading this review so I'll point out some pro's and con's.
Pro:
Very easy one handed use
Very easy using the micro adjuster to dial it in to the length that you need
Fits comfortably in your hand (at least in my hand it does)
A very well made precision tool for an awesome price (buy two if you can)
The micro adjuster
Con:
The micro adjuster was cranked down pretty tight and real had to twist to get it to loosen up for first time use. Once this is done the micro adjuster is very easy to use.
The cutter wheel was dull so I gave it a few laps on my sharpening...

Rye Nienke: I picked this up to use for marking joinery and resawing lines. I took a bit of a gamble as it had no prior reviews, but everything in the same price range seemed to have mediocre reviews at best.
Pros:
The overall feel is very solid and well made. The fit and finish is right up there with anything less than $75.
The blade is sharp enough for consistent marking out of the box, something that can't really be said for some of the others.
The micro-adjustment mechanism is very useful in my experiences. I often make markings 1/4" or so apart, so making that with a simple twist of the barrel is a huge advantage for me.
There is a poly screw on the reverse side of the first locking screw at the base. It allows you to dial in the amount of pressure against the main rod, thus changing how easy it is to move the head along the rod. It's a really nice touch for anyone that likes tuning their tools to be just right.
A minor thing; the knurling on the lock screws and fine adjustment barrel is fantastic. It's a minor detail that I normally only notice when it's done poorly, but this time the knurling is clean and allows an easy grip without tearing apart...
