D. Wright: This is one of the best tools for families to reorient themselves back to the vision of family God created.

Designing a focus study right now to share with others.

Caitlin V.: This book is gold! It’s all about making your family into a team to accomplish your individual and collective purposes. First half is laying out the problems of our society’s families and the second half provides ideas toward the solutions..very practical, and I’m excited to implement some of the ideas.

Kirsten Cooper: Recently finished this book. These ideas captivate and challenge me. Obviously I want to cultivate this multigenerational family team on mission, but I feel much more equipped to go about that.

I’ve listened to Jeff and Alyssa’s podcast for years, read almost every book, and tried to go to the conference (Covid kicked it to online, which was cool, but wanted to see it live!) so you could say I’m something of a sucker for their content.

I have to say as well versed with The Bethke family and the Pryor family as I am, I thought this might just be a summation of everything they’d been teaching for the past several years, but there were new thought provoking ideas to be had in this book. The farm vs factory idea was illuminating. I felt like the ocean knocked me a new one when reading about the family before mission, mission before family, and the family on mission section. Wow. I have never clearly realized how important it is to cultivate a family mission statement and to LIVE IT.

Now to just convince my family to buy land and start a commune. (This is a joke. … mostly… like 99% lol)

Christine MacGregor: Don’t hesitate! This book is so well written and brings so much perspective to how the meaning of family has shifted, and steps to start bringing it back. Can’t say enough!

Melissa: Take Back Your Family by Jefferson Bethke so clearly articulates what my heart has been aching for but couldn't explain. Parenting and family felt like it was failing. Bethke explains how ideas around family have shifted so far in the past 100 years and led to fracturing the family. But he provides a clear path out and hope that things can be changed. We were created to be so much more than just individuals. We were meant to be a team that works together to accomplish so much more than we could ever accomplish on our own. This book gives a clear starting point on how to change things now to create a better future for our families. Absolutely recommend it to everyone for reading even if you haven't started having children. The knowledge and lessons can be applied in all types of families.

Kimena Shabani: This is a book that will teach you all kinds of things about how to be a well-functioning family, both within your small family (you, possibly a husband, maybe kids, or whatever family situation you might be in) and your extended family. The first part of the book describes the history of family life and what the Biblical idea behind family is. Then Jeff dives into describing ways to incorporate those ideas into your day-to-day life.

There are a lot of books out there that tell you a lot of ways to change your life. When I read those I get so motivated, work on the ideas for a week, maybe 2, tops a week, and then the momentum dies, my self discipline is out the window and I'm back to where I was before. I love how the ideas in this book are supposed to become a weekly rhythm. And the awesome thing with weekly rhythms is, that if you mess up the one week you can just start all over the next week. One week of the year lost, 51 more tries to go.

If you are looking for a Biblical view of family that will enrich not only your life, but the ones of generations to come, this book is for you! Read this, learn how to live in Gods peaceful rhythm and learn so so much from...

Carissa Kinman: This book is such a breath of fresh air among all the the noise telling us to hustle more, do more and focus more on ourselves. I'm so thankful to have stumbled on Jeff's work during a season when my own soul was burned out and searching for a different way to live and to lead my family. This book sheds light on how we arrived where we have in this hyper-individualistic culture where family feels like more of a burden than a blessing and where collectively we feel exhausted, stressed and burned out. It used to be the norm to live in multi-generational households where all of the various tasks and financial burdens required to manage a household were shared among many with various skill levels and wisdom. Then, through the industrial revolution, several factors led us into a more disintegrated family model. Now we live in a society where we try to do more with less manpower, we have to work multiple jobs just to keep up with the bills and to consume more and more things that are marketed to us as "must-haves, and we do all of this without the wisdom of our elders because we have pushed them into nursing homes. Jeff lays out a beautiful vision of returning to our ancient roots and...

Elizabeth: Take Back Your Family discusses the history of modern families, the problems that arise from it (for example - a majority of the burden placed on mothers, fathers being emotionally checked out, and children pitted against each other in a fight for resources), and what can be done about it. It offers wisdom, personal family experiences, and ideas to implement.

I really liked the questions Take Back Your Family asked and they have started some good discussions in our family. The book highlights how to highlight family strengths and individual strengths and how to use them together. One of my favorite quotes is “We were created for grandeur and adventure and mission and huge vision, not making sure our kids say please and thank you and are liked by everyone in the church.”

Take Back Your Family is a book for those who need fresh ideas for how to build a healthy family, for those who want to create a lasting legacy, and for those who want to be emotionally healthy as parents and family leaders. It is both informative and practical, not to mention much needed in an age that rages against families.

I would recommend buying a physical copy of the book so you can...
