N: Took forever to receive the book which costed me over $45 and CD was not even included. I sent emails several time but never got any feedback either...

Amazon Customer: This is the book that my Violin Instructor wanted me to get. I have used it for the last year and being a new violin player over the age of 60 just learning to play violin, I am impressed. I have started learning violin using the Suzuki method and I am happy with my progress after one year. I have always wanted to play violin and after 1 year I have progressed to be able to play for enjoyment. I am glad I have had the opportunity in these trying times to find some joy thanks also to my teacher. Highly recommend this book.

Laurel Valley: Easy to follow lessons if you have even just a little knowledge of music. The CD helps show what the music is supposed to sound like, which is very helpful! Finger and bowing exercises are interspersed with songs, all of which start out simple and gradually advance as you move through the lessons. I recommend using this method to anyone who wants to re-learn an instrument or has played another instrument. A person with absolutely no music background might need an instructor initially with the Suzuki method.

Sabrina Joste: I had to purchase this as a requirement from my daughters violin teacher. Our copy did NOT come with the accompanying CD like it was supposed to so I had to purchase that separately & that was frustrating so that's why I'm taking a star off. The book itself is fine, it is what she needed for her lessons.

Lisa B.: My 7 year old just started violin lessons for the first time. Her lessons are from a Suzuki teacher, who recommended this book to assist with practicing at home (since there's only one 30-minute lesson per week). The book starts by introducing learners to the parts of the violin and eventually ends with some good, beginner songs. Her teacher said that students can take anywhere from 1-3 years to work through this book, depending on various factors. For $15, it's an excellent supplement to what the teacher offers!

I also appreciate the CD that comes with the book. The teacher mentioned how the Suzuki method is big on training the ear. Violin students need to be able to hear themselves and know if they are playing correctly. That can only come by listening to the songs as they are being played correctly. We listen to this CD many evenings during dinner. It makes for nice background music during dinner time, and my daughter is also learning what the songs are supposed to sound like, which is helping to "train" her ear. I thought it was a bit weird at first to realize there is also a piano playing with the violin in the CD. However, I quickly realized that musicians seldom have...

McDaniel Clan: The instructor said that while the book would be useful, it would not be required for her class. However, we ordered it in hopes of better understanding what is to be expected of the course.

The book teaches the parts of the violin, how to stand, hold the bow, etc. right up front. It continues with the sheet music for the songs and their variations the student will be learning.

I also opted for the CD version so I can hear the songs and play along. This is where the book lost two stars. The songs are played at a very rapid pace with no slower speed examples to learn by. Other than the whole songs, there are no samples of the rhythms to learn and practice by.

Additionally, the book is written in four languages, all mixed up together. On the pages where there is a lot of text, it is a little distracting, but it's not bad further in the book where it is mostly music and little words.
