Amazon Customer: The book has very good informations but the vibe of the book is not impartial. Many things are there in book that are debunked long ago. The author should provide us an information with out his or her ideological or polical shadow casting, especially in the part of indian freedom struggle and medival india. Thought it would provide correct unbiased info which NCERT doesn't. But its a disappointment.

sudeep: This one is one of the best books of Indian history which is narrated and written in best way..It has great illustrations and the way of language is so easy to understand.
I did found this book in the library 3 years back and read it at that time.I was in 5th standard, and read it wholly. I didn't had any idea about history and got great knowledge until in 6th I got History as part of my subject. But after sometime I forgot about this library book, when I was in 7th, I remembered only its author's name "Subhadra Sen Gupta " I wanted this book again...and so I got my dad booked it again for my great interest over it. Now I have it...and it helps me a ton in my homework when I would not be able to read the lengthy chapters of my ncert textbook.

D Srm: The problem with many such writers is that they cling to a western version of Indian history, which like science, changes its versions. Somewhere around 75% information in chapter-4 'The Poets of the Vedas' is misleading. I dropped the book right after never to touch it again.
1. She refers to Nomad folks as the composures of the great Vedas.
2. Soma rasa (the divine drink drank by rishis and devas) is conveniently described to be either marijuana, mushrooms or even opium.
3. Varna system, which was exploited by the people in power at some point in history is somewhat described accurately.
4. According to western historians and the author of this book, Rama was a white man "Aryan" (a mythical race created in mid-1800 by Max Muller) even though in Valmiki' Ramayana, Rama is described to have a wonderful dark complexion. She probably never read the original scriptures.
5. Hers, as well as western translation of the word Dasa, is a slave. Dasa means a servant. Devotees traditionally put Das or Dasi as the second name in Indian culture. e.g. Ram Das means servant of Lord Ram, Krishna Das means servant of Lord Krsna. The word slave did not exist in Indian culture...

E. Meunier: Used it almost as a bedtime story book for my children. Very well done. 10 years and up can connect while adults, ignorant of India history, will actually find a strong and entertaining way into the unbelievable history of India.

RITWIK CHAKRABARTIRITWIK CHAKRABARTI: The book is a fine read and would have given 4.5 to 5 stars. The three stars is for the misinformation regarding pricing.
Amazon falsely mentions M.R.P as Rs. 495/- and gives a hefty 42% 'discount' to sale it at Rs. 288/-. Great deal, right? Wrong. Product arrives. M.R.P in book? Rs. 295/-. They have given a princely discount of Rs. 7/-. This is blatant mis-labelling and mis-selling and is a case ripe for the consumer courts.
