Mrs. Shirley Johns: Very funny book with more than a chuckle per page. Thoroughly recommended for Toast fans or for those who want to try something different.

S. Venable: I'm a fan of just about everything Matt Berry has done. I've watched the series, Toast of London, twice. I got Toast on Toast on Audible, and it's hysterical. If you liked the series, you'll like the book.
I'm sure reading the book is funny too, but I can't help but think that anyone reading it is missing out of Berry's extremely funny performance.

Amazon Customer: If you like Toast then this book is for you. The long rambling anecdotes, the incredible ego, the dismissal of other actors and more importantly, the humour. All are in this very funny book.

Apollo: I was just saying to Aga Foundling the other day that I hadn't heard from Toast since his ill fated trip to Hollywood to, as he told me, "play a major part in a Star Wars movie" (I thought, "Hmmm.... sure" ).When I came across this utterance of cautionary tales and candid advice from the man himself. It was just like I was back at the Colonial Club listening to him and watching Ray bloody Purchase wince at every offering.

I phoned Jane to ask how things went in the US but she was lunching with Patrick Stewart (or so her voice mail told me).

In summary, I don't know when Toast will be back, if at all, so in the meantime recommend this book to keep him fresh in your memory.

Now, I must look for Ed's phone number, I'm sure he wrote it on the back of receipt for "adult services", whatever they might be.

Jason Stewart: Every chapter reads like one of the great episodes on Toast of London. You can hear Matt Berry’s voice with every paragraph as the melodramatic Toast, lumbering on about this and that and crashing with a vulgarity laced tirade that will make you laugh out loud. This is an excellent read that will keep any Steve Toast fan happy.

R. Clarke: I was concerned that this book might turn out to be a cheap ghostwritten knockoff aimed at earning quick cash.

I could not have been more wrong!

This book is the funniest thing I have read in years. I was laughing out loud reading it. People thought there was something wrong with me. Well there probably is.

Highly, highly recommended.

And if you are jonesing for some real Toast after 5 years, get the audiobook!

Maureen A. Proietta: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Hilarious. Being an American, it took me awhile to catch on to Steven Toast, and this book was just a joy. Buy it.

Mike B: Matt Berry is a very talented actor and musician, but he stands out most I think for his voice.

Assuming you've read some of the "Look Inside" you may be wondering if it's worth buying. I found the printed version a bit surreal, but the audio book comes to life. The CDs aren't exactly high quality (you can almost see right through them) and don't expect to be able to rip them without read problems. The case is a bit flimsy too, with the loose leaf wallets struggling to stay on the little clips.

You don't buy this for anything other than Steven Toast telling tall stories, with plenty of sweary words. The phrase "Sling y'r hook and F off home" used a fair few times with great effect.

You may not always laugh out loud, but it certainly is very enjoyable to listen to.

Edit : Disk 2 was unplayable in my set. Luckily I've heard them before, but the audiobook CD's don't seem very good quality. You really can see right through them!

Peter Lee: This was such a disappointment for me. I'm a huge fan of the TV show, and this was the first item I put on my wishlist for Christmas this year, so when I read it and found it didn't so much as raise a smile it was a real let-down.

The book is the autobiography of Steven Toast, star of "Toast of London", focusing on his acting career, and at the end of each there is a page of "Toast's Tips", where he dispenses advice to the would-be actor. At the end of the book, after the index (more on that later) there is a short section of reviews, with Toast's thoughts on each, and then a gallery of sixteen posters for shows Toast has appeared in, some of which are mentioned in the book. None of the posters are particularly funny, but the names of the cast members are worth a look.

The main text of the book is very short (167 pages) but felt as though it took me a while to read. Maybe the audio book would be better, but the text here lacked the sparkle of the TV show, and as I said at the start I didn't even smile, let alone laugh, while I read it, whereas when I watch the TV show on catch-up I often have to pause it for a while as I'm laughing so much. Yes, the characters from...
