Amazon Customer: Books is great, exactly what I was looking for but… it arrived with the spine already cracked and it had what looked like peanut butter all over the back. Not pleased with delivery service.

Grumpy Old Man: Thought it would be more of a how-to manual for field dressing/butchering. Nice quality book though, introduction though, covers the basics

Stephen T.: We all may need to have this knowledge and how to ethically use it some day. A very worthwhile reference.

Dustin Schimke: I got the first volume as a gift a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Informative and also like the recipes. Recently purchased the second volume and started reading. A lot of information about the animals and hunting techniques. Also i’m from canada so much of the info is mostly US. Again liked the recipe section and cannot wait to try some of them.

Mike: I am a very new hurter just learning to bow hunt and this book has taught me so much. Covers everything in extreme detail on how to track and what to look for based on the species as well as how to clean and prep. Includes several recipes as well. Highly recommend this book for someone wanting it to learn from and for reference. I take this one and the other one of the series out with me to use as a reference.

The Sleepless Knight: I am a fan of Rinella's from watching "Meateater" and listening to his "Meateater" podcast. I bought his first book "Meateater: Adventures in the Life of an American Hunter" and was hooked.
I bought this book via Kindle but after a once-through reading decided to buy the paperback version of it so my other family members could read and reference it too. Once I got the book in hand I re-read it and I'm glad I did. For whatever reason I picked up a lot more from the paperback than I ever did from the Kindle version. I guess it probably has something to do with the reference-book feel this book has and the ability to skip around and gather in the whole picture of what this book offers up. The Kindle format works really well for a novel or a mono-formatted book like a historical non-fiction.......this book is neither.
One thing I want to point out about Rinella..........his style of writing (and talking) and his methods, tools and attitudes towards the animals and pursuit really make sense to me. As a transplanted Mid-westerner now living and hunting in the West myself I can really identify where he's coming from on having to evolve from Midwestern traditions and methods...

Hurtin Albertan: I think that the book is best for the new hunter and seemed geared that way. The recipes, although good, seemed geared toward people who have already tried the basic game recipes and are looking for something new or ways to use parts of the animal that they may have over looked. I did learn lots for this book and attribute a large part of my success hunting to what i have read or listen to by Steve Rinella. I like Steve Rinella's works and think there is no better person to learn from. A great book that breaks down every aspect of hunting from gear to tactics to cooking.

John: I've been a small game/bird hunter most of my life so I was familiar with a lot of the concepts in the book. It covered the basics well and introduced some techniques for hunting in terrain that I've never exploited before. The style of writing is relaxed and very enjoyable and is complemented well with pictures. I thought the butchering descriptions could have used a bit more detail but were otherwise good. The descriptions of the type of game animals and recipes were my favorite part and I'm looking forward to putting them to use this fall. I would definitely recommend this to anyone just getting into hunting before the season opens or for a more seasoned hunter looking for a good read or maybe some new insight & ideas.
