STARTO Embroidery Kit: 215 Pieces, 100 Colors of Thread, and 3 Pieces of Aida Cloth

Marc: I bought this to start embroidery and I didn't know much about it when I order it. I actually learned that bamboo hoops are not the best, so I have to buy another hoop for my embroidery project. You should go for plastic or wood hoops. The hoops are ok for beginners, but I had to constantly ad tension on the fabric as it loosened a bit.

The kit offers a nice variety of floss colors, but there is a risk that these will bleed. Do not use on clothing.
There are different sizes of needles and they are all mixed in their container.
Some tools are useful for threading the floss through the needle, but they are cheap and break easily.
I didn't use the Aida, but it looks hard to work with.

I wish I knew a bit more about embroidery before I order my kit. I would have chosen another one with better quality hoops !

Amazon Customer: Great kit for cross stitch or embroidery if you're just trying out or need extra supplies. Alright quality for the price, hoops stay together although are a bit hard to tighten fully. Floss is decent, easy to separate and doesn't fray. I actually like it better than some of my premium flosses. The aida cloth is alright, I use it for practice as I don't require it for my embroidery projects. Needle heads are a bit thick if using less than 3 strands, but not too bad and not super obvious on the finished project. The needle eyes break pretty easily. The threaders are awesome, I love them. The little scissors are super handy too, you can get in small areas for quick cuts. Everything else is useful as well. Price has increased about $5 since I bought it, but still a good deal for everything that comes with it.

Jade: The colours don't exactly match DMC numbers but more often than not come reasonably close. I would not purchase this product if you already have a medium to larger premade pattern you intend to make. Matching colour replacement would be hard to find if you run out of certain thread colours. If you are a hobbyist who likes to have some extra colour around or plan to make your own designs this is a wonderful choice.

If you're looking to get into embroidery or cross stitch on a budget and have some patterns to buy colours for I would recommend CXC brand as an alternative. They do have corresponding DMC colours and are surprisingly good quality for the price.
