Spyderco Manix 2 Signature Folding Knife - A Durable, Reliable Tool for Everyday Use

Awesome knife, big and chunky. Beautifully made; blade is centred and the G10 handles are far nicer than lightweight FRN, I reckon. My pictures show the Manix alongside a Dragonfly and a K390 Urban. This particular Manix has a full flat ground blade of which 3.2cm is serrated. The front 4cm is a plain edge, sharpened on each side. The serrated section is sharpened only on one side.

Pogo: As others have attested, this a superb knife. I love everything about it except the bolt-action blade lock, which is so stiff that once, I couldn't even operate it well enough to close the knife. To do so, my hands must be clean and dry and I have to grip both buttons as hard as possible and pull back very deliberately, which takes time and is very annoying. I don't feel sure that I will be able to close the knife until I actually do it, so I don't carry this one at all. I keep it at home for odd needs around the house. Sure, I'm a 69 year-old geezer with less hand strength than when I was younger, but this is ridiculous. A working knife should open and close reliably with reasonable effort, for just about any user of sufficient age who has fingers and a thumb on at least one hand. This one is just too stiff. I have several other Spyderco folders this size with back-, R.I.L.-, and liner-locks, and have no issues operating or using them. The blades all lock firmly open and are easy to close. I'll be careful to avoid this type of lock in the future, and suggest other buyers do that also, starting now.

Greg: Have ended up with this as my EDC for now -- in terms of fit & finish I think you'd be very hard-pressed to find a knife under $100 that beats this one. I liked it better than Benchmades that were up to twice as much. I personally like the AXIS-style lock to any other design, even though this one feels very stiff at first. You can open it by pulling back on the lock and flicking your wrist (and the blade doesn't bounce back like some Benchmades would) but 99% of the time I just use the thumb hole which works much better than I expected.

It's not immediately obvious from the picture but there is jimping all over this knife in addition to the G-10 scales. It's out of the way enough to give you lots of traction without being so abrasive you can't get it out of your pocket.

Another cool feature that I didn't notice in the picture is obvious the first time you open the knife. There is an indent in the blade itself, so you can either hold it with your index finger on the handle (4" length from finger to blade tip), or choke up a full 1" so your index finger is on the blade in the jimped cutout (for a 3" effective length). The Spyderco Manix 2 is absolutely a masterpiece of engineering and executed to perfection. And its nice to see its still made right here on Earth!a little place called Golden Colorado,USA i believe as its etched right on the blade tang. Very nice and an incredible bargain at under $90. Especially considering this is the latest generation model made with a Full Flat Grind of excellent S30V steel not the hollow ground 154 CM of previous model i was expecting. Only prob is i would have ordered the fully honed edge instead of the combo edge if i knew that. Oh well,at this price I'll order another and the XL version soon.
This truly is a very well designed and built knife. Beautiful and grippy G-10 scales over full stainless liners with excellent jimping everywhere its needed.and what a great handle shape.its close to perfection and gives many grip options with its dual finger choils and jimped thumb ramp on the blade.
The 1/8" by 3 3/8" long blade is scalpel sharp and has beautiful finish between satin and brushed.and the 14 mm spyder hole is the perfectly simple and elegant...
