Aleem AhmedAleem Ahmed: This is the best way to achieve a jet black finish on woods. No need to mess with dyes, stains, or steel wool and vinegar for mixed results.

For other woodworkers:
-Don’t use sanding sealer
-This will make the grain pop. Apply multiple coats until you get the desired shade, then sand lightly along the grain with 320 grit paper, then apply some more. I used a foam brush and a shop towel. Both worked great.
-Seal with an OIL-BASED polyurethane or hard wax oil. Water based finishes will cause a blotchy appearance.
-Wear gloves because this will also turn your skin black.

emily: I build custom furniture and if you want a black look go no further all other stains that say black or true black are all gonna have brown to it. This India ink is black!! And easy to use. If you want grain to show use poplar wood it comes out beautiful, also maple and oak . Pine is the least black but it’s still better than any stain. When using it for pine stain first with min wax true black then India ink to get the best. It’s so easy to apply. Do 2 coats and when dried spray shellac on it , wait an hour or so and then apply top coat any top coat polycrylic or polyurethane just not wipe on. It comes out beautiful it is truly the easiest to use with a beautiful look.

Stephanie L. Flowers: I think someone needs to rethink the manufacturing or design of this bottle. It made an absolute mess when I tried to fill cups of ink for the students in my calligraphy class. The ink itself is trustworthy, but the bottle is not! Beware!

Daniel L St.Pierre: Because of Covid the delivery date moved back - no problem. Received the ink and started staining my project (staining Kitchen Cabinets - birch plywood). Went on no problem, turned out to be exactly what I wanted, very black but could still see the wood grain - perfect. May have to get more as it's a really big kitchen with lots of cabinets.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: What Amazon genius came up with “sheerness” as as an option? Seriously? Anyway, I used this super black India ink to make a super black dining table made from red Oak. Don’t even think about opening the bottle without gloves on. Also, anything the ink touches it will stain...for all eternity. If applying to wood, the secret is to continue wiping until it starts to haze over. The idea is to create a uniform thickness in the layer(s). If you allow the ink to pool or allow thicker layers to dry then it will blotch. These blotches will still be visible underneath a topcoat such as polyurethane. It would be visible when you see reflected light on the surface. It’s important to do only 1-2sf at a time because it flashes so quickly. Think shellac. If you have blotchy areas I suggest using a gray 3M pad and “sanding” it with the grain until it disappears. Worst case scenario,
if you start seeing the wood through the ink, you have to reapply some ink to that area and just wipe until it hazes over and it will disappear. Once completely dry (in only a few minutes) lightly blend the new area in with the gray 3M pad and it blends nicely. Make sure the entire surface looks...

H. Howe: Diluted very heavily with alcohol I use this to tone down and highlight different aspects of my model railroad. Mix 1 tsp ink per pint of alcohol. Subtle but impressive.
