Mike: Exactly as listed. Only it was on a spool not a role as pictured. No difference worked fine.

MUS: As described. Works as it should.

J. SalceJ. Salce: My smart thermostat was no longer working, making clicking sounds.
I was troubleshooting the unit and it was not receiving power.

I tested the 24V transformer and the heating unit and they were working just fine.
Since I only have a 3-wire setup, I had to change the wiring.

I use the Southwire Thermostat Wire to replace the old wiring and the smart thermostat came back to life.
The five wires allowed me to connect and control both heating and cooling.

DR: Ran this to replace a 2 wire installation. It works and seems to be high quality. No complaints from me

Jim Fish: Was easy to install, no problem at all to install cable to my furnace.

Rob: Transports 24vac from furnace to thermostat and then to controls. As designed it works well for its intended use.

Acolite: Came on a small black spool, more than enough. Cheaper than buying it locally.

Matt Brook: I installed a new smart thermostat on a 40 foot run with this wire and everything worked beautifully. It's a solid18ga copper wire, as measured with my stripper, that is safe for longer runs. Less expensive 5 wire products on Amazon claim to be 18ga but are actually 20ga, which is not up to code and not recommended especially for runs over about 15 ft. This wire handled and stripped well and there were no defects except the plastic spool arrived broken because Amazon shipped it in an envelope instead of a box.

Jason W T: Exactly what I needed to use smart thermostats. I did have the ecobee 3 installed previously with the power extender kit which tricks the system into thinking it has 5 wires but I always worried what I would do if it failed and also wanted to flexibility to be able to install any smart thermostat without worrying. This 5 wire did the trick perfectly and the wire colours were exact match for any system. The only issue I had was fishing the wire through the wall to the basement with old wires. New wire fell off and after trying to feed new wiring down to furnace room for roughly 2 hours I realized that there was a 2x4 mounted horizontally in the wall with just a small hole for the old wiring to go through so no matter what it was most likely not gonna make it through. Look out for that if you run into issues. I removed a small piece of the wall under the 2x4 and was then able to see the wire coming up from basement and easily put it through the hole in the 2x4 and into the thermostat area. Hope that helps. Cheers !

Phil: In upgrading my thermostat I needed a 5th wire, which landed me on Amazon to purchased this item. This comes in a 50' spool, which is a very good length of wire for a standard run. The wires stripped beautifully and I had no problem creating solid connections between the furnace and the thermostat. There were no breaks in the wire and I expect this wire to outlast me. The only reason for one knock in the star was that about 1/3 of the way through the line the brown exterior coating was cracked and peeled away, straight out of package. I noticed it when I was unwinding a length. Fortunately I was able to avoid this section as I only needed about 15', however it would have taken some mending or a replacement had I needed the full length.
