SoundAsleep Queen Air Mattress for Camping Trips: Comfort for Your Outdoor Adventures

Shopper: In preparation for our first family Cub Scout camp trip last year, I read reviews for about a week before choosing "SoundAsleep Camping Series Air Mattress with Eco-Friendly PVC - Queen Size with Included Rechargeable Air Pump." It was long arduous hours of comparisons and contemplation. You know it, you've done it. Even still, the proof is in the pudding. I was still nervous about product performance. We just couldn't afford one bad night of sleep that spells 1 week of sore neck & shoulders, backache, heat pack, chiropractor, etc. Verdict: it was amazing!!! We slept comfortably. In fact, the height of the mattress saved us from being wet. We had torrential rain in the middle of the night that woke everyone. Everyone complained about getting wet. We were singing praises of our mattress. It was our first camp out. Our tent accumulated water that we didn't even know about it until we broke camp and saw the puddle inside our tent. We were so grateful for the mattress sparing us from the wet. The rechargeable pump is FANTASTIC. It literally inflated the mattress in minutes! Chiara Farina: I brought this mattress to Burning Man after only filling it up briefly (like for maybe an hour) once at home to ensure it technically worked. That means I didn't even really give it time to stretch before taking it straight to the event. Even so, it filled up fast with the pump, and I DIDN'T HAVE TO FILL IT UP AGAIN!

That's right - for 9 straight days with temperatures fluctuating from 40 F to 90 F, it held air. I did notice that towards the last couple nights, it had deflated slightly, but I honestly didn't find that it detracted from the comfort, and it never deflated enough for it to be worth me topping it off.

It's also very comfortable - I didn't have any back issues/muscle cramps like I tend to have with some air mattresses.

Additionally, I do like the rechargeable pump. For someone who uses air mattresses specifically for camping and never really indoors, I appreciated having an inflation mechanism that didn't require an electrical outlet. I will say that the deflation mechanism didn't work as well, but pushing the air out manually was very fast and easy. It also -gasp- is easy to fit back into the bag it comes in. Score!

Sojourner DeLaterra: They should fire their CEO for letting this product ever reach the market without testing it first extensively. Seriously.
I charged the pump for the recommended time, noticing that it felt much lighter than other pumps I had used in the past.
I then filled up the mattress, which seemed fairly well made and left it alone to let it sit for several days to let the vinyl stretch out like is recommended. I added a touch more air as needed as the stretch occurred.
I then deflated the mattress and folded it up and put it back in it's roomy storage bag.
After a few weeks it was time for vacation so I charged up the pump overnight and off I went.
Well the very first night I filled the mattress and went to sleep. I woke up in three hours to find by body already feeling the tarp I put under it. I got the pump out and started to pump more air back into it and it ran but only a few seconds and the battery inside the pump died.
Still hopeful, I plugged the pump into my inverter and found out the pump isn't even designed to let you run it when plugged in so you can run it off plug power. How stupid is that?
